We could see it being nice for some types of travel, but there are much better options for packs that can carry your gear comfortably from the overhead compartment all the way to a summit. Now, there is actually a bottom, zipper opened lip pocket but this is for the rain cover (rain cover provided). The rain cover is adjustable and it can be tightened to the pack so it won’t blow away in strong winds. Oversized for easier use with gloves, and with a tight loop to hook into that reduces the chance of them bouncing open (sometimes an issue with hooks), these metal components promise to be more durable than plastic buckles, but they must also be heavier.

Other useful features include a handy clip to keep your keys safe when pulling stuff out of the bag, an emergency whistle on the sternum strap and a hydration sleeve (bladder not included). The single, main compartments means all your stuff is in one place and you won’t waste time checking 5 different compartments trying to track down that last Snickers bar! We also really liked how easy it was to access most of the main compartment with the large, half-duffel style zipper.

Given the weight limits imposed by the Archeon 45's relatively small volume I'm not convinced that a back system this supportive is really necessary on the size I've been using, but on the other hand I do find this a very comfortable pack to wear.

Comfortable, padded back panel– the Archeon has an adjustable AirScape back panel that is well padded. Its 45 litres would be overkill for most one-day hill trips, but that capacity does suit a bigger winter load, particularly if you're adding camera gear. However, if you want a backpack which you will be in and out of, then the Archeon can be a colossal pain as it means opening it right up and having to dig to the bottom of the pack to find what you need. You could always remove the rain cover and use the pocket for extra, accessible storage if you were confident of the weather staying dry.
