I couldn’t help but think of the movie Finding Nemo here, with the little fish in school and an amazing story getting passed from one sea creature to another (you may remember that in Finding Nemo, a story gives little Nemo the courage to clog the filter so he could get home again; in this book, a story leads little Tiddler to trace his way back home again). Jumbeelia, a young girl giant from Groil, the Land of Giants, loves the stories of the iggly plop who climbed up the bimblestonk and was chased back down again by a giant. Packed with games, activities and over four hundred stickers, The Snail and the Whale Sticker Book is perfect for journeys, rainy days and school holidays - a great gift for any child. She originally wrote songs for children's television but has concentrated on writing books since the words of one of her songs, "A Squash and a Squeeze", were made into a children's book in 1993. From the 1990s when Donaldson was extensively visiting school and libraries, she extended techniques learned in Bristol and Brighton to encourage children to act and sing with her.

She is best known for her popular rhyming stories for children, especially those illustrated by Axel Scheffler, which include The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom and Stick Man. But it makes no difference, Tiddler is still late each day; on the second day of the week, he says he was swimming with a mermaid and captured by a squid. Donaldson's parents, James (always known as Jerry) and Elizabeth, met shortly before the Second World War, which then separated them for six years. When Tiddler finds himself in very apparent danger, however, the reality seems much less enjoyable than the fiction.

The inspiration for Mirror-Belle was Hamish's imaginary childhood friend Sammy, who lived behind a wardrobe mirror. I used to memorise poems as a child and it means a lot to me when parents tell me their child can recite one of my books.Join two crafty robbers, one crime-busting ladybird and a farmyard full of noisy animals in this fun sticker activity book, based on the bestselling picture book, What the Ladybird Heard by stellar picture-book partnership Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks, creators of Sugarlump and the Unicorn and The Singing Mermaid. The rhyming narrative and the wonderfully colourful illustrations were enough to keep his attention. With brilliant rhythmic verse, bright and distinctive illustrations, this is a firm favourite with children and parents alike. Sad and lonely, the Rhyming Rabbit sets off one starry night all on his own - will he ever find someone to share his poems with? She decided to make the girl a mouse, and chose a fox, owl and snake as woodland rather than jungle creatures but wasn't satisfied with lines like "They ought to know, they really should / There aren't any tigers in this wood".
