Not that it was all MTV-friendly soft-rock - "Around The World" and "Parallel Universe" were among their better upbeat songs, too. I have a great sounding set up that i carefully went through step by step, Good components including a Rega pre amp , Ortofon Blue, A very good main amp and great little speakers but It did not cost a fortune. I heard details on the music I’d never heard before, and this is coming from a diehard obsessive Chili Peppers fan who’s listened to this album more than they probably should have. I have seen this flat diagonal compression on a few other works Rick Rubin produced, such as Johnny Cash’s “Hurt”, Vol 3: (The Subliminal Verses) by Slipknot, and Death Magnetic by Metallica, all of which seem to face large amounts of distortion from it.

It should also be noted that just because a signal does not reach peak loudness on a disc, it doesn’t mean the signal is not clipping. Throughout the loudness wars, vinyl releases often avert excessive dynamic range compression and clipping by featuring a different, more dynamic master. It can tighten up performances, add grit, and help remove dynamic outliers that would take you out of the mix. What this album needs is a complete remix from top to bottom, just imagine how good it could have sounded. Then again, it also sounds decent on CD, as it isn't clipped to death - compressed and limited yes, but listenable!

Different to 2012 version as has coloured labels matching cover art, the text on the front cover is translucent so you can see the art through the text, and the web addresses have been removed from the bottom of rear cover. By the time we reached the decade’s end, there were several notable examples where even non-audiophile listeners began to notice quality issues. The vinyl release sounds excellent albeit a little rough around the edges; some sibilance here and there, slight compression on the vocals at times and rhythm guitar kinda gets buried in the mix on some songs but that’s really where my complaints end.Above are zoomed-in versions of “Easily” by Red Hot Chili Peppers, “Map of the Problematique” by Muse, and “Icky Thump” by The White Stripes, all mastered by Vlado Meller. Coming off the rough and odd production stylings of Californication and By the Way, Stadium Arcadium is absolutely a breath of fresh air. It’s far from the quality of production on 91s Blood Sugar Sex Magik, but it’s far easier on the ear and worth seeking out. It suffers from the same inconsistency as all their albums do - nobody would have missed songs like "Purple Stain" or "Right On Time" - but this is the closest they've come to a solid, consistent listen.

It truly sets an amazing soundscape, profound, quiet when it needs to be, otherwise loud and with very low compression. I'm hoping for the best, but the blurb is so generic that I can't help feeling that it's not going to really improve upon what we've already got.I'm hoping for the best but I would assume there would be a better press release for this lp considering it's their best selling album. Red Hot Chili Peppers are particularly infamous for the clipping present on Californication, and much of their work since One Hot Minute has faced quite a lot of clipping and dynamic range compression, often to the point of heavy distortion.

Californication is a great summer record, but it is also marks a happy ending to a story which could very easily have met with a much more tragic climax, and to me that is why the record, and the Chili Peppers as a band, are so important and special. Enjoy great tracks such as the title track 'Californication', 'Other side' and many more, all offered in the crisp sound that can only be achieved on an old-school LP. The song was to that summers day what a cigarette is to a beer, or hydrogen is to oxygen in the formation of water. Keep in mind that this does not include ALL of the mixing differences for the unofficial versions of the album, as those were versions still in development, with many elements louder or quieter than the original release, or had a slightly different timbre. Otherside" is also a nicely measured song with a neat bassline (and especially memorable for the nifty-keen German Expressionism-inspired music video).This is both the first album by the Red Hot Chili Peppers since 1989’s Mother’s Milk not to be produced by Rick Rubin, and first album since One Hot Minute to have a different mastering engineer than Vlado Meller; they were produced and mastered by Danger Mouse and Stephen Marcussen, respectively.
