About this deal

provides some cushioning to dampen the harshness of the pavement, and has an upper that does not constrict my foot. Usually, an unstructured heel works well for me, but this time the collar just didn’t wrap around and lock me in a place like I’d want to.

The advantages of lower drop shoes is that you can run easier and quicker as you are utilising your body better. is also a hint lighter than its predecessor and is designed with a higher stack height for a more cushioned run. A complaint of previous models of the Altra Escalante was that there was poor ventilation and questionable lockdown. It is a natural feeling shoe with enough stack height to protect the foot from the pavement, without limiting ground feel. These updates will appeal to a broader range of consumers, but did they alienate the Escalante super fans in the process? There is also a small heel bevel and late forefoot rocker, but I was not particularly aware of either feature while running.

The cushion seems to recess in towards the arch and climbs up into the arch area, and then the insole exacerbates this by adding extra material in that raised area.In addition to the performance-based analysis, the Altra Escalante 3 also impressed with its durability. The new upper felt amazingly soft and adaptable on my feet, while the Ego cushioning allowed for a responsive ride. I wish there was a little more breathability for warm-weather runs and could use a better heel lockdown, but I enjoyed running in this shoe and would highly recommend it for zero-drop runners or those looking for a responsive ride with a wide forefoot to quickly take on their daily kilometres. The midsole combination of Altra EGO™ and InnerFlex™ offers a soft, responsive ride with added flexibility for an overall improved performance.

On top of its durability, the outsole also has a solid bite on gravel, damp roads, and even light trails. was the shape of the toebox, the previous version felt very narrow and restrictive, but I am happy to say they have addressed these complaints. This shoe is best for those who enjoy walking and short runs in a comfortable shoe with a natural feel. Because the forefoot is roomy and the heel is a little loose, the midfoot needed to provide a tight lockdown. If your long run is an hour and a half or so then you can probably happily run in the Escalante for everything from you fast track session to your slow recovery runs.

It is the lowest, most minimal neutral shoe from Altra, but unlike a racing shoe, this can be used for everyday training.

However, looking at the enormous square toebox, we can tell that there is significantly more room for toe splay in this Altra shoe compared to the average running shoe. lighter and is 2mm lower than the standard shoe, it is a little less protective, but it is pretty bouncy and responsive. The midsole is responsive enough to give you a bit of spring when you want to run quickly and yet soft enough to happily trot along as a slow pace. Overall, most of the updates to this model were minor, but they contribute to a better feel and more comfort for the wearer. All in all, I am very pleased with this purchase, especially since Altra opted to go back to a familiar, comfortable running shoe that I know and love.I took these out for a slightly longer run around 16 kilometres, and my knees and calves were extra sore the next day. I first tried the shoes on without socks and immediately noticed the inside ankle collars rubbing against my bone. While some stronger runners or zero-drop-only folks may be able to handle long distances in these shoes with ease, the sweet spot for me is around 4 to 6 miles.
