It’s an opportunity to find out if we’re a good fit to work together. You can either indulge your shit and repeat it until you die, or finally change your life. There's no in between"

Being relentless is repeatedly taking action to facilitate progress, regardless of what’s going on in life.

I Embrace the uncertainty

Often, the thoughts filling your head are not ones of positivity, motivation and inspiration. Instead, they’re negative, crippling, and destructive. And it’s this negative self-talk that leads to procrastination, stress, and a fear of stepping out of your comfort zone. Instead, refuse to be the victim. Accept ownership and talk positively about the change in your life. Switch your negative self-talk for positive alternatives like, “I am willing to change this.” or “I’m unwilling to put up with this anymore.” Okay, let's set things straight, a lotta people are saying this book ain't nothin' and I really don't appreciate that.

This book has a very peculiar flavor among the self help books. It actually gives you some grit. Some chutzpah as my grandmother would say. Building muscle takes time. One workout won’t cut it. In fact, for most people, you’ll need to put in the hard reps for a lot longer than you realise. Therefore, we need to learn how to train it for our benefit and break the cycle of repetitive thoughts and actions that keep us still and interfere with our growth. For that, Unfu*k Yourself by Gary John Bishop teaches us how to create a comprehensive, practical plan to follow and adopt a winning mentality. One of my biggest gripes with this text is that Gary seems to contradict himself throughout it and complicates his overall message. He is adamant that this is not another self-help book that focuses on positive thinking; however, it is one of the first concepts he introduces. In sum, he teaches that assertive language affects emotions, feelings, and ultimately decision making and that one should engage in healthy inner dialogue. He also later bashes the quote, "Change your thoughts, change your life," calling it bullsh*t. Where he is attempting to go with this is to say that actions speak louder than words and no matter what you think, unless you take action, your life will not change.

I got this

You are a space for life to happen, a wild and wondrous environment for miracles and hardships and everything in between. You are a moment, a loud bang in a burst of time that trails to a whisper and then disappears into the abyss.” This is a personal workshop for your brain, a legit resource where you can work your life out, what matters to you, what’s going to make the biggest difference and empower you to act in ways that make some palpable change to the direction your life is currently taking.” In Unfu*k Yourself, Gary John Bishop inspired people to put his words into action to transform their fu*king lives. Through seven paradigm shifting assertions such as: “I am wired to win,” “I embrace the uncertainty” and “I expect nothing and accept everything,” Bishop helped millions of readers to move past their self-imposed limitations. Limiting beliefs are the ingrained thoughts you believe to be true, but likely have no basis in fact. Often, mere projections of your negative self-talk into a variety of life situations.

Start Doing More Positive Things: What things add to your life and keep you pushing forward? Do more of that, consistently. You are a space for life to happen, a wild and wondrous environment for miracles and hardships and everything in between. You are a moment, a loud bang in a burst of time that trails to a whisper and then disappears into the abyss."When you stop searching for certainty, when you quit trying to make sense of everything, a lot of your stress will simply melt away.” We all have our unique paths in life. The principles behind what is “correct’’ we’ve been taught since birth. These work great for those who are risk-averse. But what if you are not that person? Will these truths do more bad than good? I am so glad I didn’t buy this book and just borrowed it from the library instead. When I first started listening to the audio version of this book, I was excited and eager to learn something new. But this isn’t new. It’s completely recycled. And not only that, the messages Gary John Bishop is regurgitating are some of the most garbage personal improvement messages out there. As others have pointed out, Mr. Bishop has some seriously privileged blinders on and completely ignores marginalized populations. These are the messages as I heard them: In the past, whether related to diet or your efforts to build muscle, the disconnect between expectation and outcome often derails you.

Still, accepting failure as a natural part of our life can be difficult. However, realizing that we made a mistake can prove to be quite rewarding in the long run. Why? Because as we fail, we learn, but only if we fail productively. Don’t fight your thoughts. Who cares about your thoughts? Focus on your actions. You don’t have to feel like it to do it. That is the only way to happiness. The world never pauses to wait for you, even if you’re sad, depressed, broke, or laying in the hospital with both your legs bandaged and hung 90 degrees to your waist. The second, and positive, point I got out of this is that purpose is not some grand external force. It, like motivation, come from within and require internalizing. I do feel that Bishop brought this out quite well. Motivation and purpose are internal - and must be sought there. What are you willing to do above anything? What would you make sacrifices for? Also, it can be what you are unwilling to do. The author invites you to pro-actively think about what you want – instead of pursuing dreams that are not yours. Let’s not wait a lifetime to figure out that we wasted it. Take control, be the captain of your own ship. I am wired to win The material for that matter, is nothing new, just basic self-empowerment tenants. But something about having basic tenants spoken to you in an aggressive Scottish accent is inspiring. Taking charge of your life implies being responsible for your actions and not blaming other people for your mistakes.
