Twelve Secrets by Robert Gold | Waterstones

As you probably can tell I loved this book I love a good thriller and this was definitely that and I’m next in the queue for the next book by this fabulous author who had me on the edge of my seat throughout. Ben Harper– is in his mid-thirties and is a prize winning investigative journalist. When he was just eight years old, his older brother was murdered. His father made himself scarce, so it was just Ben and his Mum to help each other through their grief. Then, ten years ago, Ben’s mother jumped in from of a train… With the ten year anniversary of his mother’s death looming, his boss, Madeline Wilson, wants him to write a story. The only thing is… it is HIS story. At first Ben is highly reluctant to do what his boss is demanding, but as time and events develop, he thinks that it might just be what he needs to find some answers, some justice, and some much needed closure. All the stars for this clever and well thought out plot. Fast moving and full of character interaction. Plenty of surprises, perfectly timed reveals, and a fabulous twist at the end. Cannot wait to read more in the future. Very well written, great characters and good twists - saw part of the ending coming but not all of it so I was impressed with that. But when he learns about a fresh murder case with links to his brother's death, Ben's life is turned upside down once more. He soon find himself caught in a web of lies, one that implicates everyone around him. And on his quest for answers, Ben discovers one very important truth: Gold makes it obvious there’s more to the original murders than uncovered at the time (or there’d be no need for this book!) but does a good job at meting out new facts and details… mostly uncovered by Ben along with Dani, a cop returning to work after an ‘incident’. Yes, this is an entertaining crime thriller. It speaks to the arrogance, entitlement, and hubris of the very wealthy who think other people are pawns in their own personal game. It also speaks to parenting, both by birth and by adoption. Goodness me! There is SO MUCH awesome crime fiction out there right now and this is another goodie! If you like tv series like Broadchurch, then I think you’ll enjoy ‘Twelve Secrets‘ too.

Twelve Secrets by Robert Gold - Debbish Book review: Twelve Secrets by Robert Gold - Debbish

There were multiple threads to follow with MANY twists and while I did guess a few, the major ones were a fantastic surprise. When you stop and gasp and have to reread the sentence – then you know you’ve got a good one! Fast-paced and brimming with superb characters. I couldn't put it down for a single second. Twelve stars!" - Lisa Jewell Pace - It started off slow, but soon the secrets and lies were revealed and everything started to slot together nicely. Fictionophile’s OCTOBER 2023 Reading Wrap-Up #bookblogger #MonthlyWrapUp#Fictionophile October 31, 2023 I really enjoyed this book, it was a great thriller with loads of characters, lots of inter-connecting stories , I was totally engrossed in it. Its told from multiple points of view and stretches over 20 years and I couldn't put it down.

More than twenty years ago Ben’s older brother was murdered alongside his brother’s best friend by two vicious girls. Then ten years later Ben’s mum killed herself. Now more than nine years later the 25th anniversary of his brother’s death is coming up and Ben’s editor has asked him to cover the story. Ben is reluctant at first but then he finds out that one of the murderers who killed his brother, and already been rehabilitated has been killed. Long buried secrets threaten to surface... Best Books Set in the 1920s — from Stories That Shimmer with Champagne and Social Change, to Rip-roaring Reads Covering Crime, Colonialism and Beyond. For some reason this novel reminded me somewhat of an episode of the television drama “ Unforgotten“. There were a LOT of characters and at first you cannot figure out how they are connected. As the story evolves you discover that they are indeed connected and it all makes sense. Written in first person present, which normally puts me off, this thriller managed to keep me engaged through to the end. The first “books” I ever had published were three short books I co-authored with James Patterson in his Bookshots series. That was a brilliant experience and nobody can tell a story better than James Patterson.

Twelve Secrets: The Sunday Times bestselling thriller

I deducted a star for the ending. It was a little too Victorian-style melodrama for me, but otherwise an excellent debut.

About Robert Gold

Writing Style - It felt like a puzzle, if a puzzle had been turned into words; the logic and connecting parts were all lined up perfectly.
