Until he escaped. The Last Orphan has it all... a story that has more unexpected twists and turns than a Disney World rollercoaster." — Midwest Book Review Just when I thought the Orphan X novels couldn’t get any better, Gregg Hurwitz takes the series to an even higher level. The Last Orphan is pulse-pounding, heart-stopping, and thought-provoking. I loved it.”—Meg Gardiner, #1 New York Times bestselling author

The Last Orphan is pulse-pounding, heart-stopping, and thought-provoking. I loved it Meg Gardiner, No. 1 New York Times bestselling authorOn Evan’s other side, a lantern-jawed retiree was bragging to a gaggle of Australian coeds and anyone else within earshot that he’d been a member of the legendary Viking Squad S.W.A.T. Team known as Sérsveit Ríkislögreglustjórans. A handsome man a few years past his prime, he basked in the glow of the young women’s attention. Now the president has him in her control and offers Evan a deal—eliminate a rich, powerful man she says is too dangerous to live and, in turn, she’ll let Evan survive. But when Evan left the Program he swore to only use his skills against those who really deserve it. Now he has to decide what’s more important—his principles or his life.

I borrowed this book from a library at work and could not put it down. It was gripping, beautiful and I loved the history represented. From the latest Scandinavian serial killer to Golden Age detective stories, we love our crime novels! Every time it looks like Gregg Hurwitz can’t top himself, he delivers another impossible-to-miss thriller . . . and The Last Orphanis everything his fans love, plus so much more. But Orphan X is not your average guest. The last survivor of the off-the-books Orphan programme, Evan was trained to do his government's dirty work. Until he escaped. I found this book to be one that caught my attention from the beginning, when I got bits and pieces of information on this historical era, and maintained my attention when additional facts were given. It is a book that history buffs will appreciate.

The bar here in the middle of the desolate nowhere was little more than a sparse wooden structure composed of beams and walls. Well-loved chessboards on tables. A foursome of burly Icelanders in football jerseys. Picture windows overlooking miles of blindingly white tundra. Decorative puffins peeked out from the shelves of bottles. Evan spent years atoning for his former life. If this mission betrays the very principles he now follows, what is left? I won this book on Goodreads and was so grateful. What a great, powerful, riveting story told during the civil war. A fantastic storyline as well as having very likeable characters. I couldn't put it down. Of course! The natural springs. We just came from the Blue Lagoon. Omigod, the color! And the mist.” The problem is that killing Devine would go against Evan’s code. Evan won’t work for organised crime, state bodies or political causes. He’ll only use his skills to help people who really need it –basically, the victims of those listed above. He’ll only kill someone who deserves it.

Evan stared at the pool of vodka puddled on the bar between his hands. Then up at the bartender, a pale Nordic towhead. “Would you like to talk to them?” Evan said. “Or should I?” Smashed between the two groups, Evan hunkered further into himself and took another sip. He loved drinking. As a crafter of wham-bam action and suspense, leavened with a healthy dose of humour, Hurwitz's abilities are as fine-tuned as ever' DAILY EXPRESSBy now, readers know that Smoak, as a child, was taken from a group home and trained by the government to be an assassin as part of a Top Secret, off-the-books program. Thankfully, Evan had a different handler than the rest of the Orphan operators, one who instilled a set of principles in him, along with ten unique rules to live by. Years later, Evan split from the program, deciding instead to use his lethal set of skills as a vigilante fighting for justice, and the Nowhere Man was born. But that didn’t stop the government from looking for Evan, or him from going after everyone who had anything to do with the Orphan Program. A one-man war was waged, but now, things have changed.

Until he escaped.Well, there’s a lesser-known spa an hour east of Akureyri. We pride ourselves on low crime here, but an enterprise was taking advantage of our goodwill, using us as a transport from the EU to North America. Meth. Significant loads out of Dresden.” Gregg Hurwitz is the New York Times bestselling author of 15 thrillers, including the upcoming ORPHAN X. His novels have been shortlisted for numerous literary awards, graced top ten lists, and have been translated into 25 languages. The audiobook features a bonus conversation between Gregg Hurwitz and #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Gardner, author of the award-winning Detective D. D. Warren novels. I'm not sure if it was too many characters or the fact that the narrative rapidly switches between them (sometimes in the same chapter), but something about it didn't grip me the way I wanted it to. The narration was decent but verged a little bit on too much telling, and that took me out of it a bit.
