About this deal

This is about a little ginger girl with braces called Zoe who has a pretty awful life. Her hamster dies and things seem even worse until she finds Armitage, a rat. She loves this rat but no one else does and things start to go horribly wrong. Zoe is the hero that you fall in love with and the villains are great pantomime characters. The illustrations are good and add to the story. However, this wouldn't be a David Walliams book without a bit of trepidation, an unfortunate incident and a dastardly villain and our poor heroine happens to come across a very nasty individual who has grand plans for Armitage. Zoe then ends up in a very precarious situation where she must rescue her pet rat from a dangerous and hugely gruesome ending at the hands of a very odd man who makes very "special" burgers for a living. urn:lcp:ratburger0000wall_h1m1:lcpdf:f328aa07-5dcd-42b5-8816-f10a0d533914 Foldoutcount 0 Identifier ratburger0000wall_h1m1 Identifier-ark ark:/13960/t2f858b19 Invoice 1652 Isbn 9780007453535 Access-restricted-item true Addeddate 2020-07-03 05:02:48 Associated-names Ross, Tony Boxid IA1829713 Camera USB PTP Class Camera Collection_set printdisabled External-identifier

I borrowed this off a tiny person in my family, who said it was "a little bit terrifying". I can see what he means, actually; I've read a lot of "Children's" books (quoted because not all children's books should only be read by children) and I've found the are generally two types: those that speak down to their audiences, and those that speak up to them. No doubt it is the latter that are the best, those that don't treat their readers like, well, children.

The story follows a young girl named Zoe, whose mother died when she was a baby. Zoe now lives in a council flat with her father and her lazy stepmother, Sheila. Zoe is being bullied by a classmate named Tina Trotts and is looked down upon by a teacher, Miss Midge. She is also suspicious of Burt, who sells burgers to schoolchildren from his van. Book Genre: Adventure, Childrens, Comedy, Contemporary, Fiction, Humor, Middle Grade, Novels, Young Adult

Alison Flood (5 December 2012). "EL James comes out on top at National Book awards". The Guardian . Retrieved 20 April 2023. From an adult perspective, it's a wonderful book, full of imagination and comedy, and some little references that I think only adults would understand. This is my first book by Walliams, whom I am a huge fan of in regards to his comedy, but it definitely won't be my last.

David Walliams has revolutionised reading for children and has become one of the most influential children’s writers today. Since the publication of his ground-breaking first novel, The Boy in the Dress (2008), Walliams has seen unprecedented growth with global sales exceeding 45 million copies, and his books translated into 55 languages. Collectively across his titles, David has celebrated 70 weeks (non-consecutive) at number one in the overall book charts and more than 200 weeks (non-consecutive) at number one in the Children’s charts – an achievement no other children’s writer has reached. David Walliams is fast becoming a global phenomenon in the world of children’s literature – his ability to wow fans is unprecedented with global sales over 14.1 million. After the climactic scene, the book reversed and dragged on and on into an anticlimax. A chore to read. The writing and plot were so dull, this book has earned a space on my chewing gum for the brain shelf. At the end of Chapter One, the author asks the reader lots of questions about who murdered the hamster. Can you write about who did this… before reading on to find out the answer? The author explains that Zoe ‘must have sensed a kindred spirit’ with Gingernut. What does this mean? Ocr ABBYY FineReader 11.0 (Extended OCR) Ocr_converted abbyy-to-hocr 1.1.11 Ocr_module_version 0.0.14 Old_pallet IA18119 Openlibrary_edition I would recommend this book as one for whole class reading and then it could be used to introduce a number of activities in different subject areas. I would particularly favour: I have heard a lot of praise for David Walliams novels and therefore chose to read his latest work, Ratburger, as a ‘funny book’ to review. It is when she finds a cute baby rat in her bedroom and strives to keep him safe from her stepmother and Burt the evil burger van driver, that we are taken on a hilarious, touching and sometimes gruesome adventure. In Chapter 10, there is a chart showing the height of different people / creatures. Can you carry out a survey to find the height of children in your class and use these to create charts and graphs? Chapter 12 begins with the question, ‘What is the worst thing that could ever happen to you at school?’ Can you make a list of possible answers? Could you use one of these as the starting point for a story? This is a humourously descriptive book which I believe would be of interest to the seven to nine age-group.It has ongoing humourous footnotes which is a concept children need to become aware of for their future educational life. Raj was a big jolly man, who always had a smile on his face, even if you told him his shop was on fire. This book has the cleverest literary ending of perhaps any book I've ever read. It hasn't got anything to do with the story either. In all Walliams other books and films there is a corner shop owner, Raj, who supplies the schoolchildren with sweets and sympathy although his business methods are somewhat dubious and definitely not hygenic. In the last chapter he complains that he isn't in the book. Quite audaciously he goes on that his legion of fans will not stand for this. Through the extremely funny and brilliant writing, he becomes not just a figure from Walliams' other books, but a real person who has written the afterword.
