The cot mattress can be set on three different levels, the top level would mean a gap of only a few cm between where the baby is and the side of the cot when dropped down, but they'd be a bit higher than you. LO isn't born yet so I can't say how well it'll work for then, but it seems study enough thus far and I've had no problems with the drop side mechanism or the wheels. It's only in a tiny room, so I've had to shunt it around a bit while getting the nursery prepared.
