Description

Gladys is an elderly next-door neighbour and somewhat of a neighbourhood watch. She hasn’t seen the children go to school today, nor John go to work, and the blinds are still drawn. Unfortunately, she has a history of exaggerating neighbourhood issues to the police, so she is hesitant to report more concerns without being completely sure. Nevertheless, Gladys instinctively knows something is wrong with the West family. Dealing with her anxiety and compulsion to investigate, Gladys will explore every possibility to find out more. This is how you do thrillers. OMG, this story was amazing… Edge-of-your-seat-nail-biting read.’ Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Her ability to balance writing, family life, and other responsibilities serves as an inspiration for aspiring authors. Her journey from studying Law to pursuing a career in writing emphasizes the importance of following one’s creative instincts. This fast-paced domestic psychological thriller is heart pounding and full of terror. With 4 POVs, there are so many stories and thoughts you will not be able to put it down. As a family across the street appear oddly out of sync of their normal routine to their neighbor Gladys, she begins to investigate. She finds several reasons to appear at Katherine and John West's doorstep to see if they are okay and each time they are met with "Now is not a good time". Her husband is suffering a progressive illness and accuses her of meddling, but encourages her to go with her instinct. The curiosity gets the best of Gladys when she thinks of all the scenarios that could be played out across the street. She is more concerned for the couple's 5 year old twins. After she sees a child's hand in the window holding a sign "help", she is torn.

This was one of my favorite domestic thrillers this year-so GRIPPING and UNPUTDOWNABLE that I read it in a day!! And, you can grab a copy today-it just published!! NT: They are dominant, distrustful, angry, violent, and like to inflict fear. Many times, they like to be in control because they cannot control their own rage, anger, and fear. There is an underlying reason for their emotions. The author has a new fan, and I cannot to read some of her earlier titles that I have somehow missed! Absolutely amazing! … So so good with so many twists and surprises . I could not put it down and read it in 24 hours! ’ Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I don't remember the last time a domestic thriller made me feel hopeful about the universe - but this one changed that. I loved everything about this book! Thank you, Jayme, for putting this one on my radar, as I'm not sure I would have read it otherwise! All of the characters were well developed, and fleshed out with their own personal stories, giving you additional insight into the choices that they will make. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on both of these, Mae! So glad you enjoyed your vacation and got to get in some reading time. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book where the entire story takes place in one day. Very interesting! Sophie is one of the twin children of Katherine and John. She is an innocent victim of the abusive environment at home. George West

As with all her books, Trope skillfully keeps readers guessing, always having a twist at the end of the story. She has the reader take a journey with the characters as they try to protect themselves and their family. She also has the reader ponder a question about what would they do: would they call the police, would they leave and start a new life, or would they stay? Because of the abuse scenes, readers will be on the edge of their seats hoping that the heroine can overcome the evil in her life. The story revolves around the Wilson family, who move into their dream home on Maple Street. They are immediately welcomed by their new neighbors, the seemingly perfect and friendly Crawford family. However, as the plot unfolds, it becomes clear that there is something sinister lurking beneath the surface of this picturesque neighborhood. NT: It comes out October of this year, titled, The Mother’s Fault. It is in the same vein as the last book. Glad to hear The Family Across the Street appeals to you. It was a good book, just not what I anticipated from the blurb.

Sounds like a great set-up, right? Especially given Molly (now going by the name of Rachel) works for the newspaper that is producing the podcast. She ends up in a hands-on position, searching for answers, while trying to discourage interest in the podcast. Unable to do that, she tries to steer the focus away from finding Molly to what really happened the night of the killings—all the while trying to conceal her identity. I feel like this book was very repetitive and went on for far too long. Gladys and Lou really wound me up. I just couldn’t believe what I was reading at times. They frustrated me to death! Sometimes, the most perfect families are hiding the most terrible secrets. How well do you know the people next door? Katherine thought today was going to be a normal day. Reeling from a fight with her husband, she gets her twins dressed for school. The doorbell rings. A man she knows all too well has a gun and is determined to have his voice heard. As the day plays out, we meet the nosey neighbor and delivery man. Both know something is wrong at Katherine's house. If you loved Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica, you will love The Family Across the Street by Nicole Trope. This is not to say that both authors have identical writing styles, but the general vibe of these stories is similar. Both are in a domestic settings, both have a few people in the neighborhood involved so multiple characters to consider suspicious, and both have crazy twists at the end. Most definitely recommended.

I think this is a really interesting take on domestic violence and gun-control. For those who are not Australian, we have very strict gun laws, and it is quite difficult to legally get a handgun. Obviously, in this book the perpetrator gets the gun illegally but I think that's another element that makes this book unique as opposed to an American book where handguns are little bit easier to get. Missing Molly had a great premise, and I think if I hadn’t already read other books by Natalie prior to this one (which I think was earlier in her career) I probably would have been in love with it.The idea for her first published novel, The Boy under the Table, was so scary that it took a year for her to find the courage to write the emotional story. I was going to rate it 2 stars but the twist was unexpected and I feel I have to admit it: Nicole Trope is strong in the manipulation game. Still, I don’t think this deserves the four stars. For me, the revelation moment wasn’t a jaw-dropping one, and it took me a moment to understand what I was reading, and what that meant to the story, especially considering everything that had happened so far. Everybody wants to live on Hogarth Street, the pretty, tree-lined avenue with its white houses. The new family, The Wests, are a perfect fit. Katherine and John* seem so in love and their gorgeous five-year-old twins race screeching around their beautiful emerald-green lawn. I’m a fan of Natalie Barelli. This is the third book of hers I’ve read. I positively LOVED The Accident and The House Keeper. Missing Molly was an enjoyable read but not quite on par with the other two.
