About this deal

The classic Teva design utilizes three adjustable straps that run behind the heel and twice over the top of the foot for a secure, intuitive fit. Though they both adjust the same, we prefer the padded webbing of the Terra Fi 4 (right) to the previously tested XLT 2. It excels in providing a barefoot-like experience while still offering adequate protection and grip. One aspect that stood out during my testing was the overall construction of the sandals. The high-quality materials, such as the polyester webbing upper and sturdy rubber outsole, contribute to their durability. While in terms of design, both shoes share a similar aesthetic, with the iconic Teva style and recognizable strap design, the new version has a redesigned footbed that comes with superior padding for walking or trekking.

I have fairly flat feet, but these sandals don't have an extreme arch, so they were perfect for the shape of my feet. The footbed is soft, cushioned, and breathable, while the rubber sole has traction that allowed me to walk across the many types of terrain, wet and dry, of the Bay without worry. It was easy to get a comfortable fit by adjusting the three different Velcro straps. As you can see, they have those sturdy Velcro straps, as you’d expect from a Teva sandal, and then contoured podiatry points along the footbed with plenty of arch support. Materials I used my previous Hurricane XLTs in a similar fashion but found that traction when wet was greatly impaired and the sandal itself felt like walking on a wet washcloth. The XLT 2 seems to have gotten rid of this issue and I found it comfortable to keep them on the entire day, from the lake to the trail to camp. Digging Deeper On the other hand, the Xero Z-Trail EV focuses on minimalism, featuring a lighter construction and a thin, flexible sole that offers a barefoot-like feel.

I was pleasantly surprised by the stability and confidence the sandals offered, especially on steep and challenging terrains.

Moreover, the secure stitching and reinforced toe area provided additional protection against potential damage. Despite encountering rough terrain and sharp objects, the Teva Hurricane XLT2 maintained its structural integrity.

The Teva Hurricane XLT 2 sandals and the Teva Terra Fi 5 Universal are both high-quality outdoor sandals from the same brand but with a few significant differences in design. The only complaint I have is that in dusty or sandy environments, the open design of the Teva Hurricane XLT2 allows small particles to enter. While this didn’t significantly impact their overall performance, it required occasional cleaning to maintain optimal breathability. 5. Comfort The webbing and straps are durable and perform well in the water. The heel cushion is a nice touch for comfort. Both models feature hard-wearing construction and excellent grip, but the Terra Fi 5 Universal has a more rugged outsole that performs well on varied terrains. However, the Teva Hurricane XLT2 offers superior comfort with its redesigned soles.

Teva’s design is unique, and remains almost unchanged from the original hiking sandal. There are enough adjustments to really dial in fit. I did find that there were a few bothersome pressure points, most notably on the forefoot near the pinky. This is why we always say “try the shoe” to see just how well it fits you. That said, the Hurricane XLT 2 sandals have a good amount of adjustability, which is good because I find myself tightening or loosening the straps fairly frequently. Thatcher is the founder of Teva (Hebrew for "nature"), the Velcro-strapped sport sandal that changed the way outdoor enthusiasts traversed rivers and mountains and has become a beloved icon in the outdoor community. I spent the summers of my childhood living in Tevas, so it was exciting to revisit them as an adult. I've been pretty strongly anti-sandals-for-men but I get so hot in the summer that I decided to give them a chance. These Tevas fit exactly as I remember, they're comfortable, and while the Velcro is a bit dorky, it does offer an adjustable and secure fit, and it's nice that there are multiple places to tweak the straps to get the ideal fit. From my direct experience with the Teva Hurricane XLT 2, I found that these open toed shoes could handle short periods of exposure to water without becoming saturated. However, prolonged exposure or submersion would result in moisture seeping through. 2. Traction
