It's clear that each character's cards were crafted with their specific lore and timeline in mind, and I was blown away by the amount of detail that went into the artwork and descriptions of the Fate and Villain cards. As a small example of timeline differences, there's a younger Obi-Wan Kenobi on one of Asajj Ventress' Fate cards, while Darth Vader's Fate card displayed an older Obi-Wan Kenobi. In Villainous, you’ll play as an iconic Star Wars™ Villain. Choose Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, General Grievous, Asajj Ventress, or Moff Gideon. Each Villain has a unique objective and abilities based on their story and abilities. You’ll also meddle with your opponents by playing forcing them to face off against Jedi and heroes like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, The Mandalorian, and Ahsoka Tano. The objectives are fun to play and ensures that the new ambition tokens are brought into the game quite frequently. I will say that, during a 4-player game, we ran out of the ambition tokens and had to substitute with credits for a while. As well as the tokens, I have not yet played a game where the vehicles have had a large impact on the game which is a little disappointing.

As to the other two, we won’t be hearing anything else til June, but with a release date scheduled for August we won’t have to wait too long to get our teeth into this exciting addition to the Villainous catalogue. Star Wars Villainous will be the first in what is now the franchise’s third game system, the first two being Disney Villainous and Marvel Villainous. Characters aren’t compatible between the three systems, so no putting Thanos up against Hades or Darth Vader for instance. The result should be a set of oversized, sculptural game pieces that feel like part of the Star Wars universe. Each player takes the role of a different Star Wars Villain. Each Villain has a different Objective they are trying to achieve. Each turn, players move their Villain Mover to a location on their Board and perform actions that are available there. As soon as a player has fulfilled their Villain's Objective, the game ends and that player wins.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith (he’s around for the whole war and only appears in the third movie). Also, the only explanation given for his constant coughing and wheezing came from the old Clone Wars animated series, which is no longer canonical. Star Wars boasts a most impressive roster of licensed tabletop games that can compete with the best space board games out there, and Star Wars Villainous is no different. It’s the latest core game in the much-loved Villainous series that launched in 2018 with Disney Villainous and subsequently Marvel Villainous (2020) alongside a plethora of expansions. It's true that the game isn't perfect. For instance, I'd recommend the original Villainous instead if you're unfamiliar with the series (Power of the Dark Side is slightly more complicated than its predecessors). However, that isn't to say newcomers should avoid it - it just requires a little patience. Indeed, perseverance will reward you with one of the better strategy board games for adults you can get right now.
