In late fall it was easily able to drop the humidity under 60% and the humidistat started it up and cut it off as needed. Impact on my electric bill was negligible. Move the dehumidifier closer to the drainage area, or consider purchasing a dehumidifier with a built-in pump. No extra work is required when you encounter a short-term power outage. When the power comes, the machine will return to the previous working mode.

If there is vertical coiling in your hose, you will need to secure the hose to the floor or at the endpoints to keep it flat and straight. I have a smaller 1920s house on a pier and crawl foundation in Florida and humidity has always been an issue during the “in between seasons” when the A/C is not running. I bought this and use the drain hose to the outside. It has done the job, bringing the humidity from the high 60s to the high 50s. The tank is somewhat small, but that is my only complaint. We had a bad ceiling mould problem in 2 bedrooms on the southern side of the house, to the point where we would wake up with condensation running down the windows. Same problem here. We had some renovation done in our basement. I suspect that something inside the dehumidifier might be clogged with drywall or cement debris. Totally unsure as to how to open and clean the inside mechanisms. Otherwise it was working great. Long hoses are often a problem for dehumidifiers used in basements because the drainage point is often far away from the unit.I am very impressed with this dehumidifier, it is lightweight and easy to carry, when turned on it isn’t noisy (makes a quiet, low hum, quieter than a fan). Construction looks strong and sturdy, comes with an instruction manual and it is very easy to operate (plug it in, turn it on). I got this to use in my basement. I live in a rental so unfortunately there is moisture in the basement and previous tenants had dogs…wet, smelly dogs…inside. So the house starts smelling every month or 2 no matter how well ice shampooed the carpets. My friend suggested I try a dehumidifier in my basement and WOW what a difference this has made! The stale stinky dog smell is gone. For dehumidifiers that do not have the ability to have a pump installed internally, you will need to add a general-use condensate pump to the drainage system. We have a Toshiba dehumidifier unit. It started draining water on the basement floor. Did everything suggested in the blog and tonight I set the unit in an old plastic tray 18×22 to see how much water drains out. This unit is at least 1-2 years old. This is the first problem we have had with it.
