About this deal

And there are lots of features to enjoy, too. There’s Freeview Play on board, and dedicated apps for all of the expected catch-up channels, too. The TX-50EX750B will also play Blue Planet IIin 4K HDR via the iPlayer app. The whole smart experience is easy to use and has a nice graphical interface that the whole family will be able to get to grips with. You certainly don’t need to be any kind of expert to set everything up first time and it just all works in an easy to follow manner. The only thing still missing from the CX680 is Freeview Play which has had a few delays now and should be seeing the light in October 2015. We will test it out as soon as it is available. Dolby Vision: with ultra-vivid colours, sharp contrast, and rich detail, Dolby Vision gives you spellbinding picture quality. Together with Dolby Atmos, it’s a thrillingly engaging cinema experience.

As you'll soon see from our roundup of the best best Panasonic TVs below. The best Panasonic TVs of 2023 at a glance:

The Panasonic HX600 (TX-50HX600) sits towards the tail end of the Japanese TV manufacturer’s 2020 4K TV line-up, featuring support for Dolby Vision as well as some smart capabilities.

Delivery information: If you buy a soundbar or DVD/Blu-ray player along with this TV, please note that they'll be delivered separately. The picture is a bit subdued, though, with Siena looking more overcast than sweatily hot, and the lights in the tunnels beneath Piazza del Campo looking less bright than they should. If you’re a gamer you’ll be a little bit disappointed to discover that Game Mode is rather buried in the menus and doesn’t have a shortcut button, but also pleased to hear that we’ve measured input lag at a very impressive 26ms. This isn’t a terrible-sounding set, and its built-in speakers are relatively balanced and clear, but its presentation is quite narrow and congested, offering none of the spaciousness or punch of the best flatscreens around.

We tested the TX-50CX680B in the usual two rooms we have here. We have a normal living room with two large windows and plenty of light for some of our testing and we also have a completely light controlled cinema room where we can test even further and in more controlled surroundings. We tested with normal DVB broadcast material, SD content from DVD, 1080/24 Blu-ray along with the 4K apps on the TV and native 4K material we have shot ourselves. Energy consumption XYZ kWh per year, based on the power consumption of the television operating 4 hours per day for 365 days. The actual energy consumption will depend on how the television is used.

Complexions look natural and varied, more so than on the Philips, although at times they can verge on rather pallid. I’d wager its skin tones are the more accurate, the HX600 capturing the complexions and facial features of Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s multi-racial cast with more nuance and detail. Switching to the Warm colour tone does add some more punch. Motion, in particular, is extremely impressive here, with the Intelligent Frame Creation reducing blur without introducing any of that unpleasant soap opera effect. In fact, only Sony marginally betters this Panasonic for motion. For gamers there’s a bespoke Game Mode to reduce input lag for a faster gaming experience. However, there’s none of the more advanced features such as VRR needed for PS5 and Xbox Series X in case that’s of interest. The CX680 is an Ultra HD 4K TV at a price point which makes it very affordable for the end user and at the same time adds in the latest must-have features. It has quad-core processing driving the FireFox operating system which runs Panasonic’s Smart TV and Home Screen 2.0 for 2015.Drop down to standard definition via the aerial or satellite tuners or from a DVD, and that natural touch makes for a surprisingly pleasant image. There’s a little more fuzz around edges than the very best can muster, but this is a clean, controlled image by SD standards. Enabling either Smart Sound or Movie results in a bigger, more focused soundstage, but the HX600 also gets a bit “shouty” with voices in Smart Sound mode, even at lower volumes. Colours are bright, but not particularly lush or vibrant, and details aren’t emphasised as they are on other sets. It’s just a less engaging and enticing image compared to the best in class.

File formats that are not supported by your Network Contents server (DLNA compatible server, etc.) cannot be played. If you want to connect your TV to a blu-ray player, games console, soundbar or soundbase then you'll need a HDMI cable.
