About this deal

On paper, the EOS R5 might be the best hybrid mirrorless camera on the market. It’s both high resolution and full-frame, producing 8,192 x 5,464 resolution files that weighed in, on average, at about 60MB each.

Many batteries in current use could be quite old. The LP-E6 battery first appeared on the EOS 5D Mark II, which came out in September 2008. If you have this model, or a model out at around the same time, the batteries you are using could easily be more than a decade old and in that time they might have been recharged hundreds of times. There's also a theoretical advantage in low light (see below). Naturally, landscape photographers will err towards the 45MP resolution of the EOS R5, and the R6's 20.1MP might be considered a little low, with the older EOS R offering 30.3MP. But it's important to state that there isn't necessarily a 'better' when it comes to resolution, only what suits your style of photography. Canon EOS R5 vs EOS R6: low-light performance That statement still stands and the EOS R5 remains the best mirrorless camera that Canon has made so far. It's almost certainly the best Canon camera on the market right now too. But with the Sony A7S III and Sony A1 now here, and Canon responding with firmware updates for the EOS R5 and the announcement of the Canon EOS R3, is it already on the verge of being overshadowed? You can even display RGB instead of brightness histograms, which is a welcome improvement. The one thing I dislike about the R5’s viewfinder is its eyepiece. It is considerably worse than that of Canon DSLRs in two ways. First, it is smaller and not as good a fit to the eye, so sunlight can penetrate more easily. This can be an annoyance in some situations but an actual problem in others. For instance, in the snow on a bluebird day my right eye (the one on the viewfinder) started watering after only a short while of shooting. Second, the material used is much harder than that of the earlier eyepieces, making it much less comfortable to press your eye against the camera for longer periods of time. Unfortunately, there don’t seem to be any aftermarket eyecups yet. Canon EOS R5 + RF24-105mm F4 L IS USM @ 45mm, ISO 100, 1/400, f/11.0 Rear LCD Screen

Purists who are concerned about the jello-effect of electronic shutters can put their minds at rest– we saw very little evidence of it. It was possible, on frames with tall elements in them, to detect a very small amount of distortion, but even with incredibly fast subjects, frames shot with the electronic shutter were just as usable as with the mechanical option. Another plus: the electronic shutter is totally – literally – silent. Wedding photographers and wildlife photographers, rejoice. When you tot up the differences between these outwardly similar cameras, it's clear that they're aimed at very different photographers. The battery charger is compatible with a 100 V AC to 240 V AC 50/60 Hz power source. If necessary, attach a commercially available plug adapter for the respective country or region. To avoid damage, do not connect to portable voltage transformers. While the Canon EOS R5 has the upper hand when it comes to resolution, the EOS R6 has a theoretical edge for shooting in very low light. There are signs of economizing on the EOS R6 when it comes to the monitor and build quality, though. The monitor is still a vari-angle touchscreen – at this end of the market, we’d expect nothing else – but it’s 1.62MP instead of 2.1MP, and it’s a touch smaller, at 3in rather than the EOS R5’s 3.15in.The ‘Battery info’ menu option has filtered down to enthusiast models and can now also be found on the EOS 750D and 760D cameras, introduced in February 2015. These were the first of the entry-level models to offer details of battery performance. They use the LP-E17 battery which includes same technology as the LP-E6N. Of more interest to the rest of us is the EOS R5's new battery – the LP-E6NH has about 14 per cent more capacity than the slightly older LC-E6N. Those who already own Canon kit should note that the older model of battery is still compatible with the R5. You can also use a Power Delivery supply to charge the R5 via its USB-C port, saving you popping the battery out when it’s time to recharge.
