Cleaning Machines – Once you have a big collection, cleaning records by hand might be a lot of effort. There are vacuum cleaning machines that automatically apply a cleaning solution and then vacuum the liquid off again. There are also spin cleaners that clean the record with the solution as it spins with the brushes cleaning off the dirt. Although effective, they can be expensive. You shouldn’t steam vinyl flooring, because although vinyl is hard-wearing and water-resistant, the heat that comes from standard steam mops is too intense for the materials that make up vinyl flooring. It could potentially cause the tiles to warp and melt the glue with which the flooring is attached – you’ll find out more about this in our ‘ What is vinyl?’ flooring guide. We advise using a damp (not sopping wet) mop or cloth with warm soapy water when cleaning vinyl floors. For a detailed step-by-step guide on how to set up your turntable, consider reading our complete guide. The Importance of a Great Turntable Tangari, Joe. To use the brush, place your record on your turntable and turn the power on. Then, hold your brush at a 90-degree angle and allow the record to spin under it. The idea is to move the brush from the inside grooves to the outside while it is spinning. The only slight downside is that you'll need to invest in some kind of protective cover or perspex lid to keep the VC-E dust free. Either that, or box it up each time you've completed cleaning a batch of LPs.One thing to note, however, is to make sure you don’t press down too hard. While this brush has been designed specifically for vinyl records, jamming down on it can damage the grooves in the record and trap the gunk you’re trying to clean out. Keep your sweep nice and light and you’ll find your records are all the better for it. Better still, if your turntable manufacturer provides the option to upgrade your platter for an acrylic model, this will allow you to place the record directly onto the platter, thus eliminating the need for a mat altogether. Whichever surface you choose for your platter or mat, they all have pros and cons – you can read more about this topic, here. Turntable Setup & Maintenance Paper with poly lining – As you can probably guess, a mixture of the above. The outside paper makes the sleeve much more rigid whilst the poly lining inside lets the vinyl slip in much smoother with a lower risk of scratching and collecting dust. By far one of the most effective ways to clean records – particularly en masse – is to use a record cleaning machine. Depending on your budget, there are several routes you can go down. If you have a very large record collection and money is no object, then you may want to consider a fully-automated record cleaning machine with ultrasonic cleaning technology.

Most records ship with very basic paper inner sleeves and no additional outer sleeve protection. So to really make sure our records will last the test of time, we’ll want to consider making a couple of upgrades. With the record spinning, gently apply the wet applicator to the playing surface. Hold it in place across the width of the playing surface for a couple of rotations and then remove the applicator from the record's surface. If GrooveWasher is unobtainable where you live, I can also recommend the Vinyl Revival cleaning kit. This solution is safe and alcohol-free, but does require a two-step cleaning process (clean and rinse). Record Cleaning Machines a b Liedel, Kevin. And keeping the little ones happy with a bar of chocolate, seemed like such a good idea at the time until half of it ended up on your floor. But it’s OK. Just use a floor spot cleaner (there’s one in our maintenance kit) and you’ll be right as rain in no time. Can you steam clean vinyl flooring?Using a microfibre brush daily to remove dust and debris will reduce the possibility of damage occurring. Vinyl is a type of plastic made from ethylene (found in crude oil) and chlorine (found in regular salt). The two substances combined form Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) resin, or vinyl.
