And you also get a GoPro adaptor which allows you to fit the Moon where you might a GoPro, below a Garmin mount or whatever. The light has an IPX7 rating. It's withstood very heavy showers, prolonged rain and bike washes and remained completely unaffected. Switch When your bike arrives final assembly will be required. Don’t worry we’ve got you covered. Our step by step instructional video can be found here as well as our easy to follow instructions.

As a relatively inexpensive high-powered light, the Meteor Storm Pro is best suited to riders not looking to get too rowdy on the trail – we’d say it’s perfect for people who dabble in night riding rather than those looking to go out on regular epics. How we tested

The Rigel has a wide beam spread with a long throw, which is great for fireroad blasting and high-speed, technical trails that aren’t too winding. It even suffers minor vibrations on rough roads – nothing significant, though. Obviously, the upside of this tool-free mount is the simplicity of moving it between bikes. There's a helmet mount available separately, should you prefer. Emma’s first encounters with a road bike were in between swimming and running. Soon after competing for GB in the World Age Group Triathlon Championships in Edmonton in 2001 she saw the light and decided to focus on cycling.

This is then committed to the light's memory. This allows you to tailor the light to suit your environment. To restore the factory preset you simply remove the battery, depress the power button for a second or two, and then reassemble. Switch In my opinion, the Meteor Vortex Pro is a solidly made, affordable light with a good choice of modes and outputs, plus the ability to set five of them to suit your own requirements. On paper, the weather sealing could be better but this hasn't been an issue during testing, and a replaceable battery is a definite plus. Verdict Although the two Allen bolts that attach the clamp to the bar are only 2.5mm, the clamp is very secure. Its out-front style also looks sleek, with the main bulk of the unit sitting next to and slightly in front of the stem. The remote’s Velcro strap also attached it securely, meaning I could easily change modes on the move, although I spent most of my time in mode 1 (2,100 lumens) or Boost (2,600 lumens). For instance, 1,500 lumens is overkill for a lot of road conditions, so you could tweak the brightest mode down to, say, 1,000 lumens for most rides, or even 800 lumens – almost doubling your battery life. You can actually take the brightness down to a minimum of just 20 lumens, which'll give you up to 56 hours' burn-time. FL1 and FL2 are simple flash modes with 20 lumen and 100 lumen respectively, with FL3 offering a 400-lumen flash while the LED stays on at 20 lumen output. It's similar to Exposure's pulse mode where the light never actually goes out.

Unfortunately, the Rigel Enduro isn’t intuitive to operate. I wasn’t able to just start using the light, and couldn’t access the Boost function without studying the instruction manual first. You can tweak the lumen output using Moon's VLS – Variable Lumen System – giving you a fully customisable setup that you can tweak for high performance or battery saving. Moon has judged the length of the cable well – it reaches from the hoods to the light while following the contours of the bar, so it'll sit nicely under the bar tape. Modes We then wanted to get a bit more specific and only look at Moon products that are listed in the Lights category.

Moon Helix Max Rear Light

The rubber shims for fine-tuning the bar fit don’t have any grooves, so tend to splay outwards as the clamp is tightened and look untidy, although this doesn’t affect clamp performance and the light proved to be very stable over rough terrain. My favourite setting is the daytime flash, which puts out 700 lumens in a slow rhythm. I actually used this at night, along with my regular main light (a Light&Motion Imjin 800); the setting might be called Day Flash, but I found it really useful for getting that extra bit of attention from drivers on narrower lanes. The Vortex Pro is quite a small unit compared with a lot of the lights on the market today, especially those that boast an output of 900 lumens, as the Vortex Pro does in its Boost mode. A further Variable Lumen System (VLS) mode – where the light’s output can be defined on a dimming and brightening scale – is also accessible. Quality is without doubt one of the most important factors that we consider when buying bikes, parts, accessories or clothing. As you’d imagine it’s especially important when buying Lights. Let’s take at a look at the sort of things you can look at when trying to ascertain the quality of Moon Vortex Pro Front Light.

All the lights chosen have a minimum output of a claimed 1,500 lumens, but some are much brighter. Generally, more lumens equates to a higher price. There is an auto mode, which turns the light on and off in whichever of the light's seven settings you choose, depending on how dark/bright the conditions. Some will appreciate this (George found it 'interesting' when he reviewed the slightly lower power non-Pro Moon Meteor-X Auto), but I'm pretty indifferent to it. I'm sure there's an application for it, I just never found it. The light itself is pretty robust. The front half of the body is made from aluminium, which easily resists being dropped onto the road without issue. I would like to see a better warranty though: one year for workmanship or material defects and a mere 120 days for the battery doesn't seem long enough to me.

The memory function saves faff, although changing modes mid-ride is simplest with the included wired remote. Tidy folks could run the wire beneath their bar tape. Mounts The Rigel Max also has an Intelligent Motion Sensing Function, which means if it detects no movement for 20 seconds it'll switch to 10 lumens; after 60 seconds it'll go to standby; and after an hour of nothing it goes into a deep sleep. It's the same price as the Ravemen CR1000 which comes with lower overall output and shorter battery life in like-for-like modes. And while you also get a remote control, there's no helmet mount.
