About this deal

PLEASE This is an unofficial companion book to David Baldacci's popular novel "The Fallen (Memory Man series Book 4)" - it is meant to enhance your reading experience and it is not the original book. And the dead woman is identified as Anne Berkshire, a substitute teacher at a Catholic school and a volunteer for a local hospice. Baldacci is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Virginia School of Law.

You never have the miss another new David Baldacci book! We update this archive daily to ensure we have all the David Baldacci 2022 books to explore and add to your reading lists. Kudos, Mr. Baldacci for keeping the series strong and the stories sharp. I look forward to each new book you have and can assure you that I remain a fervent fan of all your work. He was also aware that the difference between the two queries was more complex than some might have believed. On top of that, Berkshire's searchable past ends ten years ago, beyond which there is no record of her.

And now that I’ve read the latest book of this series and all the previous series as well, I can’t wait until I read the next David Baldacci book that comes out towards the end of this year: Long Road to Mercy, which is the first in a new thriller series featuring Atlee Pine, an FBI with his own demons to deal with. He moved swiftly down the darkened hallway, bouncing off one wall and then its parallel. Something fell to the floor as he brushed against it.

He grabbed the top of the fence separating the two properties, neatly swung over the barrier and dropped inside the other yard. David Baldacci has been writing since childhood, when his mother gave him a lined notebook in which to write down his stories. (Much later, when David thanked her for being the spark that ignited his writing career, she revealed that she’d given him the notebook to keep him quiet, "because every mom needs a break now and then.”) His books have been translated into more than 45 languages and have been adapted for both film and television. He heard a noise somewhere. Then he heard it again. And another time. Repeats of the same sound over and over. It was two distinct sounds actually, one a solid thud and the other like something scraping against something.Reading about people with photographic memories has always fascinated me. This one was no exception. Hooked to the characters, the writer simply made it impossible to trust any of them. Anyone could have been the criminal, sitting and chatting next to you. Yet, you could never know what they were plotting. There was assisted suicide. A terminally ill person is suffering and wants to end it, and you help the person to do so. The practice was legal in some places and unlawful in others. Again, someone was dead and, unlike the accidental death, the death was intentional, but it was not the same as murder, because you weren’t doing it for your own benefit. That is all you need to know about the story that and that there will be dead bodies, lots of secrets and the most important thing of all, never trust anyone!

He didn't die, obviously, but he did end up with some rather unusual after-effects - most notably being hyperthymesia, or the ability to remember every single moment of every single day and call any one of them up at will. He also acquired synesthia, or the association of colors with people and objects. Particularly in his career as a detective, those rare abilities usually are extremely helpful, but in his personal life, not so much. There's no escaping, for instance, the years-ago horror of the brutal murder of his beloved wife and young daughter. He's also a bit emotionally challenged, in that for the most part he's unable to express his feelings. Those qualities make him a unique character - the biggest reason I'm a big fan.

The story itself was complex as well. There were, in fact, a few parallel storylines going in the book, and, at times, I had trouble keeping them apart. There were really a lot of things going on compared to the shadow of a town that the place has become over the years. But, I guess, if you’re searching for trouble and poking the bee’s nest, you will definitely find it. As for Berkshire, she seems to be an enigma. Despite having a modest salary, the teacher owned a multimillion dollar condominium and a very expensive Mercedes. As usual Baldacci offers up a complex plot which takes a while to make sense and though there are a lot of players, they’re there for a reason and all bring something to the story. I must admit I was probably less engaged in the plot as I went along – as it seemed a bit convoluted, and kinda prosaic, at the same time. And I don’t mean simple or boring, more I guess that it’s like they say – most crimes or murders come down to just a few motivations. (And I’ll not suggest which this is to avoid any spoilers!) There was justifiable homicide, the best example of which was self-defense. There you intended to harm another and you were doing so for your personal benefit, but the law said you had the right to defend yourself, which disqualified it from being murder. In addition to being a prolific writer, David is a devoted philanthropist, and his greatest efforts are dedicated to his family’s Wish You Well Foundation®.
