About this deal

Both products are easy to apply and also perfect for beginners. I personally like to use The Gradual in the summer as it’s lightweight on my skin and in the winter I like The BUTTER because it feels more nourishing when my skin is that little bit drier. Gradual tan is a natural choice for those looking for a sun-kissed glow, without the deep finish, stained sheets or streak-risk of traditional self tan. I don’t have OCD about hand-washing, btw: I just have a baby who needs frequent nappy changes, in addition to all of the other messes he likes to make for me to clean up…) But I’m not here to talk about Isle of Paradise, as much as I secretly want to. No, today I’m here to talk about Tan Luxe self-tanning drops (BUY THEM HERE). Which seem like pretty much the same kind of thing, really, only with a heftier price tag. Who’s wishing she’d heard of the Isle of Paradise version before she splashed out on Tan Luxe, now? THIS GIRL, THAT’S WHO.

Gradual tans are a lot more forgiving than traditional formulas, so don't necessarily require a mitt. That said, Michealla still advises using one; "Application with a mitt is effortless. It glides on, smooths the tan and finishes it beautifully."

I honestly thought it was all going OK… then, one night, we were all sitting chatting after dinner, and I noticed my mum looking at me strangely. “That stuff you’re using on your face,” she said, leaning in to take a closer look. “That’s not working out for you.” You agree to indemnify and hold Space NK (and its officers, directors, agents, subsidiaries, joint ventures, employees and third-party service providers, including but not limited to Bazaarvoice, Inc.), harmless from all claims, demands, and damages (actual and consequential) of every kind and nature, known and unknown including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of a breach of your representations and warranties set forth above, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party. It got worse, though: because, not only did my feet remain patchy, my legs started to look kind of orange: that is, or may reasonably be considered to be, defamatory, libellous, hateful, racially or religiously biased or offensive, unlawfully threatening or unlawfully harassing to any individual, partnership or corporation; In this case, I suspect the main problem was the fact that I was applying the Tan Luxe tanning drops, then immediately putting on shoes/paddling in the sea/walking on sand… doing anything possible to guarantee a really patchy tan, in other words. Would it have been better if I’d applied the drops at night instead, I wonder? No, seriously: I really DO wonder that – because I didn’t actually try it, but now I’m thinking it would probably have been a better idea?

Now, to be fair, feet have always been a problem area for me when it comes to fake tan. Even if I somehow manage to get the rest of my skin to remain streak-free, my feet will generally give me away. I don’t know, it’s like I get to my toes and just give up on life or something? use of the content you supply does not violate these Terms of Use and will not cause injury to any person or entity. Meet also a bunch of my other cosmetics, pictured here purely because I no longer have the products, so I can’t take a new photo of them. ) I would like to say here that I learned my lesson from this experience, and never used those Tan Luxe drops again. I mean, I’d LIKE to say that. I can’t, though, because, yup, I took THE FACE on holiday to Florida with me, too. Go me!

Now, the idea here is simple: each of these products consists of a self-tanning oil, presented in a bottle with a medicine dropper. To use them, all you have to do is add a few drops into your regular moisturiser or body lotion, then apply it as usual, et voila: you now have an awesome, natural looking tan, without all of the faff that usually goes along with that process. Additional moisturising is key. Gradual tans are more hydrating than many traditional formulas, but DHA can still dry the skin. On tanning days, use an ordinary body lotion or cream on any particularly dry areas before you apply your gradual tanning product. "Focus on your hands; especially the palms, in-between your fingers, and around your wrists," says Michaella. "Also watch out for elbows, knees, ankles, and tops of feet down to your toes, along with any other dry areas you may have elsewhere." On days you're not tanning, moisturise all over. Michaella recommends shea butter-based creams or lotions rather than body oil, which can interfere with the development of your tan or speed up fading. The result? A buildable, gradual, tanning outcome that is easier to apply without streaking or patches, with the added bonus of a burst of hydration. Working across the celebrity and fashion world, tanning expert Michaella is an industry go-to for all things sun-kissed glow. Here she shares with GH, everything you need to know about applying gradual tan, including exactly how she applies her own. How often do you need to apply gradual tan? The GRADUAL is a lightweight oil/lotion hybrid body moisturiser, it will literally melt into your skin upon application. It is our fastest gradual tanner, your glow will start to develop within one hour. It can be used daily and also as an aftersun to help maintain your post-holiday glow.

Gradual tanning lotions use the same sugar-derived active ingredient found in traditional tans, DHA (dihydroxyacetone), causes a non-toxic browning effect on the skin. What sets gradual tanning lotions apart is that they use far less DHA than traditional self-tan, and deliver it in a moisturiser product that doesn't need to be washed off. Move on to stomach and chest with your firm fast strokes, add a 5 pence size amount of product if needed. Yeah. That’s a nice tan you’ve got there, Amber: been somewhere nice, then? Said no one ever: because all anyone had to do was glance down at my feet, and know beyond doubt that I should not be allowed to use fake tan, because I AM NOT GOOD AT IT. Exfoliating 2-3 times a week is part of the maintenance routine, to facilitate both removal and application. Michealla's method of choice is to use an oil-free shower gel with exfoliating gloves; "I just buff my body all over in circular motion, making sure I've got a lovely pink flush."
