After a conversation, Valkyrie finally forgives Skulduggery over his past. Skulduggery then tells her of his plan to stop Melancholia, which involved Lord Vile. Skulduggery and Valkyrie, with the help of young sorcerer Adddayo Akinde, stop the Apocalypse Kings from destroying the world.They meet Chabon the next day, who manages to swindle them with a different skull rather than Skulduggery's. Realising the con, they chase him through the streets of Dublin and pin him down, asking him about the real skull. Chabon reveals that Davina Marr, the new Prime Detective, had bought the skull for triple the price just that morning. A new plan is made to steal Skulduggery's skull from the Sanctuary. From 2007 onward, he took on Valkyrie Cain as an apprentice Detective and together they have saved the world many times – most notably when two of the three generals returned, the Faceless Ones almost broke into our dimension (after which he was trapped in another universe), Croke Park Stadium was almost destroyed, a Remnant infestation of Ireland, the Death Bringer almost killing everyone, Argeddion almost destroying the world by giving Mortals magic, the War between Sanctuaries – in which almost every Sanctuary in the world declared war on Ireland – also almost killed everyone, Valkyrie succumbed to Darquesse, making him draw together a team of soldiers, monster hunters, killers, criminals and Valkyrie's reflection to defeat a god.

They later were captured in the temple. Auron Tenebrae revealed Skulduggery's dark past to Valkyrie, Disturbingly, this was similar to her own Darquesse. They later escaped and the Sanctuary stormed the Temple. They follow him into the Caves, reaching the Sceptre about the same time as Serpine and fight him. She is given a tattoo of the Meryyn Sigil by China. The sigil grants her twenty-three minutes of invulnerability and super-strength after three tests have been completed in the Necropolis. Skulduggery completes the first two and Scapegrace the second. Valkyrie goes up against Darquesse, destroying buildings and cars in the process. When the sigil is about to time out, Darquesse has Valkyrie defeated, but she is saved by Lord Vile and Melancholia St. Clair. Darquesse sets off a devastating explosion which Valkyrie survives in the last seconds of the Meryyn Sigil's invulnerability. Vile also survives, but Melancholia is killed instantly. The explosion destroyed an entire quarter of Roarhaven. Valkyrie is brought to the Medical Wing by Tanith, but she denies needing treatment and heads out to find the Deathtouch Gauntlet and a Sunburst. She eventually finds her parents in the ruins of the city, running towards her with Alice. Valkyrie asks to borrow Alice to put a protective charm over her. Her parents believe the lie, and Valkyrie takes alice to a secluded area. She kills Alice with the Deathtouch Gauntlet, claims the Sceptre of the Ancients, then revives her baby sister. Valkyrie is horrified at what she did and later suffers from PTSD and depression due to this act. Skulduggery later visits Valkyrie at the pier, who is there in case the Infected she led to the river become vampires. One vampire appears, and Skulduggery and Valkyrie begin to fight it. The following morning, Valkyrie heads over to Fergus and Beryl’s house. Their daughter, Crystal, answers the door and accuses Valkyrie of getting close to Gordon so that she would get his inheritance. Beryl appears and says that Gordon’s brooch is ugly and doesn’t go with anything else she has. She then mentions that she say Valkyrie drive away with Skulduggery Pleasant yesterday. Stephanie says they must have been mistaken and asks to use their bathroom, and, when in the house, sneaks into Fergus and Beryl’s bedroom and steals the brooch.

Later Skulduggery and Valkyrie go to Ghastly's shops, where Ravel and Tanith agree to help interrogate Marr. Valkyrie says that she has to go, and Skulduggery wonders where she is. Valkyrie visits a Banshee so she can seal her True Name, Darquesse. The trio go to Maybury's house, but no-one answered the door. When Geoffrey has only 15 minutes until he is going to be eaten, Skulduggery finds a door in Maybury's bedroom. Geoffrey notices the carpet is wet and soggy. Skulduggery calls out to Maybury through the door, but nothing happens. Geoffrey asks where the water is coming from, but Valkyrie says there is no water. Geoffrey sees a fish but he is the only one to experience it. Skulduggery looks for a way to open the door, without noticing it, he does. The go down a room with a dead Maybury sitting in the armchair. Geoffrey panics, but Skulduggery tries to calm him by telling a useless story. As of Bedlam, Militsa was officially Valkyrie's girlfriend. They enjoy each other's company and support each other throughout the books. Unlike Valkyrie herself, Milistia isn't a hardened warrior used to violence and they end up breaking up in Dead or Alive because Militsa is unable to handle killing Coda Quell despite doing so in self defence. Militsa later helped the resistance lure Valkyrie into a trap in which they were deliberately arrested knowing Valkyrie would come to their Resistance. They drive to Crasis' house, and he explains that Foe threatened his family so he was forced to disguise Mercy as Francine. Skulduggery asks for a map, and he finds the location of the Doomsday Machine. The Shark comes for Geoffrey, Valkyrie grabs his arm and pulls him away at the last second. But she drops him again, under water. He looks for the shark and sees it coming for him. But at that time, the water disappears and so does the shark. Geoffrey thanks Valkyrie for saving him. Skulduggery wonders why he doesn't get a thank you too and Geoffrey merely said, Skulduggery told him to shut up and walked away. Darquesse and Tanith free one of the Remnants after killing off the sorcerer and Cleavers guarding it and use the sorcerer, Maksy, as a host for the freed Remnant. Tanith seems uncertain about freeing the remainder but still complies with Darquesse.

During Valkyrie's time as a child of the Faceless Ones, she maintained her personality. However, everything that concerned the faceless ones was felt to be right and good. She still treated the members of the Resistance as her friends, though. Thought they were misguided who would eventually do the truth behind Valkyrie and recognize the "Dear Faceless Ones". The question remained, however, whether Valkyrie, as a child of the Faceless Ones, would allow her friends to be executed or not.

A villain called Scaramouch Van Dreg has captured Skulduggery Pleasant, and both are in a dungeon. Scaramouch had been trying to capture Skulduggery's attention but finds out that Skulduggery had been sleeping the whole time. Scaramouch wakes him, and Skulduggery is surprised to find Scaramouch. Skulduggery tells him that he was trying to arrest Rancid Fines and Christophe Nocturnal, much to Scaramouch's anger, who had thought that Skulduggery was trying to arrest him. The trio sit in a diner, discussing where the murdered person worked. Skulduggery makes some calls and finds four people were killed in the last two weeks. He comes to the conclusion that the pen was handed down from person to person and each of them were killed in turn. The curse started with a sorcerer named Elwood Satchel. The three got into the Bentley, drove to a person who knew Satchel well. He wasn't home so they waited in the car.
