24 Fabulous Pre-Cut Edible Wafer Cake Toppers: Puss in Boots

Puss befriended a young Humpty Alexander Dumpty, who gave him his name Puss, and they became brothers in heart with a dream: To find the Magic Beans so they may find the Giant's Castle and get the Golden Eggs of the Golden Goose, setting themselves up for life. Throughout their childhood, Puss and Humpty got in and out of trouble, stealing various beans in their search for the magic beans until one day, Puss saved the mother of the Captain of the Guard (Comandante) from a bull, and was regarded as a hero when Imelda gave him a pair of boots to wear with pride. I took pictures throughout the construction of the cake as well as the sculpting of the characters so I will be posting information on how I created this cake scene in upcoming blog entries. In Shrek 2, Puss sang "Livin' la Vida Loca" with Donkey. In Far Far Away Idol, he also sang "These Boots are Made for Walkin'" which he earned Simon's admiration. Expert Thief and Hunter: Puss is known to be a master of thievery since he is extremely skilled in theft. Like all cats, Puss is also a master of hunting. The next day I attached the figures with a dab of melted chocolate and we were on our way to the party. It was an hour long drive but the cake didn’t sway a bit. I think it was probably the most solid 3D cake I have made so far. Could he be any more adorable?!? From his round little belly to his whimsical whiskers and infectious grin, he does the boots proud! And dare I say it…? He would go nicely with a glass of milk. Meow. ; ) I needed to fill out the bottom of the beanstalk so I decided not to be lazy (this was a new day) and make a batch of Rice Krispy treats. I wrapped the treats around the plastic wrap covered pipe and shaped it into the width I wanted.Puss calls Shrek "boss" or "señor" instead of his real name; the only exceptions being in Shrek the Third, when he was telling Artie that Shrek only claimed to use him to take his place as the king of Far Far Away to protect him, and "The Heroic History of Puss in Boots: Told By Puss Himself! ", where Puss recaps his appearances and events.

I covered the board with a vinyl covering instead of fondant. That made it easier to handle while transporting and was more cost effective, but did cause a little wrinkling.Santiago de Compostela - one of Puss' nine lives, a cat burglar. (This reference seems to suggest that his nine lives are more like reincarnations than video game re-spawns. However, he could be referring to a name he operated under or was given in the span of that life.) Last weekend was my niece’s 5th birthday. The theme of the party was Puss In Boots, as that is my niece’s favorite movie. My sister-in-law asked if I would make a cake that would incorporate the three main characters from the movie, as well as the beanstalk. Children’s cakes are my favorite so I was really excited to make something that would thrill my niece and also be a focal point of the party.

After I got the shape I wanted I used a round cutter to cut out a hole, in each of the cakes, where the beanstalk would go. This was so that I could slide it over the pipe onto my stand. I had marked on my pattern where that circle was to be placed so it made it easy for positioning it on the cake. Sometime after the events of this short, Puss would find himself in the Poison Apple in Far Far Away, working as a bounty hunter to try to further clear his name. I then placed the cakes on the stand and filled them with some buttercream icing. I continued carving away at them to give them mounds on the top and make a flat area on which to lay the characters. Notice I covered the board with some paper towels for easy clean up.Aside from being a protective and honorable fighter, Puss is a "ladies' cat" as well. Puss likes to tell stories, sing and dance. He is always on the lookout for an adventure and will do anything to protect his friends. The final aftermath, and proof that the kids enjoyed eating it as much as they enjoyed touching it. My niece with her special cake. She was really excited and grabbed everyone who walked in the door and dragged them over to see her cake. That made my whole day! I then covered it with the rest of my modeling chocolate and continued adding lines with my veining tool. A few days after saving San Ricardo, Puss is riding his horse in the desert until he gets captured by Italian guards. He gets hired by the Princess to stop a criminal called the Whisperer and to do that she asks him to bring his three minions, called Three Diablos with him as they know where he is. When he discovers that they are three cute innocent kittens, Puss is surprised that they're so infamous minions of The Whisperer but later he finds out about their devilish nature when they turn on him as they're walking in the desert and bury him alive.

The three kittens becomes the new guards of the Princess and Puss says goodbye to them, proclaiming that they will not forget about him but before he can finish the guards close the door. While he walks inside the cave, Puss meets all his previous eight lives and, after a brief moment of nostalgia, realizes how much wrong he was about wanting to be a loner and prepares to leave but he meets the Big Wolf once again, who reveals he's not a bounty hunter but Death in person and, finding the idea of cats having nine lives absurd and being mad that he wasted his eight lives without any regards, he wants to take his last life to "make a favor to both of them". Puss runs away and manages to escape from the crystal cave, being spotted by Kitty and Perrò, who believe he's leaving them behind. Now to begin the carving. I had previously made a cloud pattern on paper by using the oval pan I had baked the cakes in, as a guide for size. I made the pattern smaller than the pan so that I could make the cake angle in at the top and bottom. To do that I laid the pattern on top of one of the layers of cake and angled my knife so that the upper part of the knife was against the pattern and the tip reached out to the edges of the cake. This picture shows me just starting the carving. Puss tells the story of Santa Claus as a smooth Spanish cat (similar to himself). He is distracted from telling the tale when he sees a glass Christmas tree ornament and begins batting at it. When he realizes what he was doing, he walks away muttering "I have shamed myself". Later, when Shrek explains that he never celebrated Christmas before and wanted it to come right, Puss tells his friend "Christmas just comes". Unfortunately, the wolf strangely beats every move of Puss and even cuts some hair from his head almost killing him, making him drop a bit of blood and his fur puffing from fear, exciting the Wolf as he "loves the smell of fear". Puss escapes by flushing himself in the toilet leaving his sword behind. Scared of death and afraid he can not be the famous legend he was, Puss accepts the doctor's advice and goes to Mama Luna becoming a lap cat. However, he first buries his boots and dress, metaphorically killing his old persona.

At the end of the movie, Puss helps Shrek and Fiona care for their new born triplets. He has trouble with them pulling his fur and tail. In my last blog entry I showed you my latest creation, the Puss In Boots floating cloud cake that I made for my niece’s 5th birthday. The two questions I get asked the most when I make a 3D cake like that are, “Is that edible?” and “How did you make that?” In this entry I hope to answer those questions for you and inspire you to make your own gravity-defying cake creation.
