About this deal

The Cellar: has been a leading restaurant in Anstruther for many years and has a Michelin Star under chef Billy Boyter. The tasting menu draws inspiration from seasonal Scottish ingredients and produce found locally and foraged from the coastline and surrounding countryside. Find out More The Dolls House has been trading for over 25 years, The Dolls House serves, hearty, good quality, delicious food from weekend brunches, weekday lunches, dinner and afternoon tea and of course all day hot, cold and alcoholic beverages. If you join them for a Sunday roast, the Dolls House will donate 50p to a local charity – Families First. The furthest north of all the East Neuk villages might be a challenge to get to, but it’s worth the effort. From the beautiful high street (with some of the quirkiest and beautifully restored cottages you’ll see) pop into the Crail Pottery and then follow the winding coastal path down to the pretty harbour. This 117-mile walking trail pretty much follows the entirety of Fife’s coastline from the Firth of Forth in the south to the Firth of Tay in the north, but the section on the East Neuk between Elie and Cambo Sands is, (in my humble opinion) the most scenic by far.

At Kingsbarns, you can play golf at one of the world’s best golf courses. Since 1793 golf has been played at Kingsbarns. This is where Kingsbarns got its name from. However, today the barley that is grown and kept at Kingsbarns is used to make whisky. Let’s start with what is probably the most well-known of the East Neuk fishing villages. The first thing I noticed when we arrived in Anstruther was the buzz. It was a gorgeous day and there were people everywhere; perched on benches at the harbour, wandering along the cute shops on the main high street, and sprawled on the golden sands of the beach. After driving through so many sleepy villages on the way this was a welcome relief! The historic museum buildings are full of character and the internal courtyard has links to the fishing industry dating over 500 years. The interior is deceivingly large and each building is filled with vast displays of photographs, artwork, fishing materials, and, of course, lots of boats! Human history is what I’m most drawn to and I really enjoy reading accounts from the fishermen’s wives and the ‘The Herring Lassies’. Next along the coast is St Monans, probably the quirkiest of all the East Neuk villages and named after Saint Monan – who was martyred on the Isle of May out in the Forth and set up a chapel in the East Neuk.

Alternatively, if you’re travelling by public transport, there are some really great bus options (though not the train).

Also, you can visit the Crail Museum and Heritage Centre, Crail Pottery or Crail Harbour Gallery and Tea Room. Elie is known for having some of the most wonderful beaches in Fife. Here are the best white sandy beaches and hidden coves, including iconic Ruby Bay and Elie Beach: Old Rope Store | Best for solo travellers, this single-bed studio is situated on the harbourfront. Inside the old stone walls you’ll find a compact but also wonderfully cosy studio apartment. Book here. Cottages There’s also a bizarre welly garden (yes, a garden full of Wellington boots) and a tiny museum dedicated to the heritage of the village.

Kellie Castle and Garden: This stunning 14th-century castle is filled with antique furniture, paintings, and intricate plaster ceilings. The surrounding gardens are equally beautiful, boasting a variety of plants and a scenic pond. Along the way, walkers will find working lighthouses, ruined castles, lots of fishing harbours, spectacular sea views, and endless numbers of seabirds (especially between Anstruther and Crail near the Isle of May). The East Neuk of Fife never fails to charm me with its pretty colours, coastal vistas, fascinating heritage and tasty local produce. This post was written as part of a paid campaign with Museums Galleries Scotland who sent me off an adventure to discover the area’s local museums and many other highlights. The East Neuk is a cluster of charming fishing villages in the region of Fife in Scotland. Picture pastel-hued houses, gorgeous harbours, and narrow streets that will lead you towards all sorts of undiscovered nooks and crannies. There are also cosy pubs, nice restaurants, and some of the best fish and chips around to be found. Of Baern, Gaby writes: "The Baern menu focuses on bakes, which showcase Scotland the Bread’s Flour and veggies from East Neuk Market Garden, and are created by Hazel Powell and her business partner, Giacomo Pesce.
