About this deal

As a veteran of “rat patrol” dramatizations, I was glad to note how fair and balanced Macintyre makes his book. There is no attempt to make the S.A.S. more than it was – a very limited number of action-oriented soldiers who were willing to go into high-risk situations and create havoc. Many of them were captured and not treated well. Many of them had narrow escapes. Just as diverse as the soldiers were the many campaigns they engaged in. Essentially, each chapter of the book is a concise narrative of a major operation undertaken by the SAS. As these were generally carried out by small groups, there are brief synopses of the key figures involved, followed by a dramatic recounting of the action. Although this renders the structure of the book episodic, it is engrossing nontheless, particularly as the accounts are laced with flashes of humor and genuine drama. In fact, I found myself wondering how many of these exploits had already been mined (or will be mined) by Hollywood scripwriters.

There is almost universal contempt for the tiny number of former troopers who try to become celebrities and make big money from publicising their (often imaginary) exploits. A history of the Special Air Service by ex-23 SAS member, Michael Asher which covers the unit's first 50 years, including World War 2, campaigns in the Middle and Far East, The Falklands War and Operation Desert Storm.

Killing Rommel is a fictionalized story, based on real events of World War 2. Told in the style of a first person memoir, the story features a mission by the Long Range Desert Group (LRDG) to assassinate the German general before his Panzer divisions could sweep into the Middle East oil fields. Mr. Macintyre has written a well-researched and engaging look at the British Special Air Service (SAS – the forerunner of modern Special Forces) in World War II. He follows them from their inception in the Egyptian Desert, the expansion into 2 regiments with different nationalities - although the author focuses on the British contingent, their work in the Italian campaign and finally their support of the D-Day landings and the final campaigns in Germany.

The Day of the Programmer is not enough time to celebrate our favorite code-creators. That’s why at SAS, we celebrate an entire week with SAS Programmer Week! If you want to extend the fun and learning of SAS Programmer Week year-round, SAS Press is here to support you with books for programmers at every level. I thoroughly the enjoyed each geographical SAS adventure and this made the book even more interesting per the many SAS missions and in the great detail of each mission per all the lead and supporting characters .It unflinchingly captures both the romance and the tragedy of being involved in the Special Forces.

Zero Six Bravo is a fantastic record of special forces soldiering but, more than that, it sets the record straight about this controversial operation. A must read. I have heard of some ex-SAS men who have turned to drink or drugs (which is rare), but it's more common for them to seek isolation and a simple life deep in the Herefordshire countryside – or even to turn to religion. A non fiction book about a little known event during Vietnam War in which Australia sent members of the Australian Army Special Services (SAS) soldiers to Cambodia. In agreement with the United States. Needless to say this was also another event in American history that I knew nothing about no surprise there. This book was very informative and eye opening. NetGalley, Carissa MillerAnd not being big and muscled-up like the US Delta Force of Navy Seals makes them more effective at mountain combat. In real life, it is true that leaving the Regiment for civvy street is often the hardest thing these men will do. This book looking at the Australian unit is long overdue in giving the Australian SAS some well deserved praise.
