You should get an instant answer on whether your application has been successful, though in some rare cases Klarna or V12 may need to look at the application in more detail. The Roland SPD::One series is a curveball, that’s for sure (why the second colon?). The series is made up of four individual units, each with a specific function. They’re a little over-priced and they don’t have line-inputs, yet there’s plenty to love here.

This would be particularly problematic if you’re planning to launch long samples (e.g. pads with long chord progressions, bass lines, etc). Cross-talk could unexpectedly start or stop these samples at the wrong time. Loading Time: Switching between kits on the device can take some time (particularly for bigger external samples). For live performances, this can be a bit of a hindrance. However, with enough planning, you can get away with it. What is it like to play live? Supported File Type: 16-bit, mono and stereo .WAV files with a sample rate of 48K, 44.1K, 32K, 22.05K or 11.025K This sample pad contains many different in-built drum kits and sounds. These range from acoustic sounds, electronic hits, and world music to musical synth pads.

You’re able to import a lighter “tap” sample as well as a hard-hitting strike of the drum. You can then adjust the velocity level on the SamplePad 4 to determine when the “crossover” is of which sample to trigger. This is great for percussion samples like congas or bongos. The ins and outs of the Alesis SamplePad 4 When compared to options from Roland or Nord, some of the on-board sounds are a little unsophisticated, and we experienced some awkwardly long loading times when switching between functions. While this is not too much of a problem at home, this could potentially waste precious seconds on stage. If you're not sure whether to upgrade your SPD-SX, or whether you spend the extra on the SPD-SX Pro, our comparison piece will help answer all your key questions.

Customer Reviews

Is cross-talk really an issue with this device? The answer is that it depends. You may have to avoid using the particular problematic pads if you’re looking for a lot of sensitivity in your playing. Otherwise, it might be fine. If the Pro model is a bit rich for your blood, there’s still plenty to love about the red ‘Special Edition’ of the original SPD-SX, which features a hefty 16GB of storage space and is currently a decent chunk cheaper than the new pro model. But what’s really great about the Alesis Sample Pad is that it has the functionality to play any bespoke or custom samples you wish to play. The unit has an SD card slot that can read cards of up to 32GB max. In practice, importing sounds turns out to be a relatively smooth process. Once a sound is selected from the card it takes a few seconds to load into the pad, and when you’ve filled all your pads with suitable sounds and set the parameters as you want them, you can save the kit. The Yamaha DTX Multi-12 does not offer anywhere near that much space, but it supports finger and hand drumming, with mutable pads, meaning it feels much more realistic to play. Then you’ve got the Nord Drum 3P - also filed under ‘multipad’ - which is a drum synthesizer.

On-board storage is now a massive 32GB, which is double that of the SPD-SX Special Edition (keep reading for more on that), and there’s more than 1,500 kits and sounds built into each unit, covering a range of sounds and styles. Switching between kits when using only the internal sounds is very fast, so that’s something else to keep in mind. An intuitive UI makes browsing through your samples as easy as you could want it to be, and if you hook the SamplePad 4 to your Mac/PC via USB, you can quite literally drag and drop samples to where you want without having to remove the SD card! Hi, yes, the SamplePad Pro is a decent option if he’s limited on space. However, if he wants to really learn drums then I’d recommend getting pedals as well, as otherwise he will only be able to play with his hands. Sensitivity: As a drummer, I do not think the SamplePad Pro measures up enough in terms of detecting subtlety, in comparison to the high-end Roland and Yamaha models. For example, if you play fast double-stroke rolls or rudiments with ghost notes, it just feels a little clunky to play.

Requirements

The high-end sample pads by Roland and Yamaha are quite expensive and therefore out of the price range for many people. Please note that this extended warranty is currently only available on products sold within the UK, EU or EEA, and is subject to the terms and conditions as detailed on the extended warranty certificate provided. The Alesis Sample Pad Pro comes pre-loaded with over 200 individual drum and percussion sounds that are versatile and realistic sounding. These sounds are definitely a good platform to get started with into the world of hybrid drumming.
