About this deal

The next part is the ceramic capacitor C1. Ceramic capacitors are symmetric so it can go in either way. Though it will function for a while if you charge it less, you should charge your TV-B-Gone Pro SHP overnight, or for about 8 hours to get it fully charged up. (There is no indicator that the battery is low or fully charged.) Just wanted you to know that, when I got home from work today, I found my TV-B-Gone® key-ring remote control in my mailbox. Thank you for the prompt mailing! I can’t wait for the next time I go to my doctor’s office so I can turn off the continuous pharmaceutical ad video that runs in his waiting room on the big screen TV that nobody watches. That’s one of many annoying TVs I encounter that I can now do something about, thanks to your product.” The idea for TV-B-Gone was born at a restaurant in the early 1990s, when Altman and his friends kept paying attention to a TV in the corner, not to one another. They chatted about how to turn off all televisions, and he wondered if it would be possible to string together a series of "power" commands. Third, try to aim as best as you can at the IR receiver, usually a small dark plastic plate on the front of the TV

Will my TV-B-Gone® remote control work on the new types of TV screens, like plasma, LCD, and projectors? My dad is hard of hearing and the excess noise from random TVs is really tough for him at restaurants. I bought him a TV-B-Gone® for Christmas, and now he can join in on our conversations.” Her co-worker, shelving DVDs in the corner, saw the key chain. A sly smile crept through his goatee. "You got any more of those?" he asked. Mitch Altman http://www.pbs.org/mediashift/2006/04/digging_deepertvbgone_device_s.html (inventor of the TV-B-Gone) and his company Cornfield Electronics http://www.cornfieldelectronics.com/ worked together with me (Adafruit Industries) to develop a kit version of the TV-B-Gone. Mitch thinks open source kits are awesome!

What would concern me is that for whatever reason the transistor (and thus the diode) might be switched on continuously for even a short while by e.g. a hanging program or testing. The North American & Asian model works for televisions in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Australia, as well as many Asian countries (may also work in other countries that use NTSC video). The European model works for televisions in European countries and Australia (may also work in other countries that use PAL or SECAM video). The PRO version is disguised to look like a smartphone, but it really is a powerful TV remote control designed to do one thing, Turn Off the TV. Repeat for all four legs. The solder points should be clean and shiny. See the tutorials for soldering help if you can't get it right. TV-B-Gone is a type of Universal Remote Control. Normal television Universal Remote Controls can control many different makes and models of Televisions. They are designed to control all functions for a make and model of a tv that you program it to control. A TV-B-Gone Universal Remote Control is much simpler and much more useful – it only controls one function: POWER. And it controls that function for virtually all television makes and models. There is no need to program your TV-B-Gone. Here at TV-B-Gone®, we believe that children should be encouraged to watch TV as little as possible. TV-B-Gone® remote controls may be useful tools for kids to learn to turn off TVs in an enjoyable way. Of course, TV-B-Gone® remotes should not be used by children who might choke on small plastic items.

One of the more popular social activities in China is group dancing in public squares. Often the pastime of many middle-aged and older women, participants are colloquially referred to as “dancing grannies.” While the activity is relatively wholesome, some dancers have begun to draw the ire of their neighbourhoods with their loud music and attempts to dominate the use of public parks and recreational areas. Will my TV-B-Gone® remote control turn on or off my TV if it is playing a video or DVD instead of a TV show? Yes! All TV-B-Gone® remote controls come with batteries installed. These batteries are small, lightweight coin cells (so don’t look for heavy triple-A batteries).

I am a nurse at a nursing home, and I use TV-B-Gone® to make my job easier, since each room has a different TV, and now I don’t have to search for everyone’s remote control.”

It works on the same principle as your TV’s remote control. It cannot hurt your TV or anyone else’s TV. The body of the Sonic comes from this replica of [10]’s screwdriver from Think Geek. Inside, the screwdriver has space for a battery a circuit board to control the lights and sound normally expected of a sonic screwdriver. [furrysalamander] added a freeform circuit composed of an ATtiny85, a transistor, LED, and a few resistors to add the ability to turn just about any TV off.

The IR LEDs have more than 100mA going through them. This is way more than a microcontroller pin can supply (usually 20 to 40 mA max!) so we use a 'driving' transistor. These NPN transistors amplify the power of a microcontroller pin and are designed to turn off currents of over 100mA. When the base pin is pulled high (though the base resistor) the transistor turns on and the LED turns on too. When the base pin is pulled to ground, the transistor turns off and no current passes through the LED. TV-B-Gone http://www.tvbgone.com/ is a 'universal' remote control device, it is basically like a remote control but with only the "Power" button. This is a kit version of that product. The microcontroller is the device that stores all the codes and turns the LEDs on and off according to a program. You can swap out the 2 AA battery holder for a 3 AA battery holder. This will give even better performance! Using C or D cell batteries will give longer run time but won't increase the power.

Updated code to fix PROGMEM incompatiblities--now works with latest versions of gcc compiler & Arduino IDE http://www.mouser.com/search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=IR333C%2fH0%2fL10virtualkey63810000virtualkey638-IR333C%2fH0%2fL10

Technical Details

The sounds and images from TV that constantly bombard us everywhere we go have a powerful effect on us. Through repetition, we remember the many messages about ourselves and our world that we receive from this potent medium. We may feel better if we have the ability to manage our environment, and the impressions that we are exposed to, allowing us to create our own messages and ideas. A later revision was spun up with its own PCB, and features an Attiny85, which is more than capable of handling the job. Showing thoughts of the future in the design, there are provisions for extra buttons to be added should the project require a nicer enclosure, and a space for an external crystal if necessary.
