About this deal

But I really did enjoy reading the different perspectives. They were varied and each had a great use in propelling the story. I'm also happy that Lloyd wrote from a male perspective which we close to never see in current day thrillers. The Island is located off the English coast, and the group can’t wait for it to be launched with a three-day party. The place is highly guarded, but behind it all, there is a lot of tension as every one of them has secrets they don’t want to be put in the open. This story gets pretty dark, even more than I expected. But there’s also a bit of a satire aspect to it; almost like the authors were having a bit of fun torturing many of the ridiculously-behaved people. Verdict LOVED it!! I have already found what will definitely be a favourite book of 2021. Writing about social media and making it a convincing piece of work is surely difficult and Ellery Lloyd duo have certainly pulled it off. Also what a clever play of words on the title! People Like Her. The grand opening of the newest branch of “Home” – an exclusive getaway for the rich and famous – that ends up with a body count.

The Home Group is a collection of ultra-exclusive private members' clubs and a global phenomenon. So the opening of its most ambitious project yet – Island Home, a forgotten island transformed into the height of luxury – is billed as the celebrity event of the decade. I liked this book because I'm familiar with people who are Social Media-Famous. I cannot even imagine how much more than a full time job this would be, and how challenging it would be. Fame comes with a cost, and all of these characters pay for it in some way. I have always been fascinated with the private club and magnet for the celebrity and creative elite, Soho House (even going so far as to try to scheme a way into joining until I learned of the exorbitant membership fee). Having attended Soho House functions as a guest, I always wondered when happened with the inner workings and admissions of such clubs, so this book was basically written for me. Who and what is one sacrificing by making their private life go public where they are no control over the people seeing it. However, not all is what it seems, and Emmy appears to be faking it all to reach the top.How the two sides of social media were explored. The influencer life vs the fan who might harm the influencer they look up to.

There are three narrators in this book. One is Emmy, a mommy blogger who goes under the name Mamabare, and is fake as all get out. Everything she says and does is content, done for the sake of driving traffic and making money. She's kind of sociopathic. Maybe she even is a sociopath. But she's good at what she does and is basically the queen of teflon spin. I love how the book ends. It made me ponder a lot of things. When you say you don’t want your life to be on social media, to another person, does it really really apply to you as well? What if you got the fame? Would you give up fame? Fame is so addictive! It’s a story of an exclusive club of the HomeGroup with a chain of high-class hotels worldwide. It’s a club that the rich would kill to join since many admire it. The club owners are Adam and Ned, and they are almost opening their latest addition to their portfolio Island Home. Lastly, and then I'll be done with my rant on this horrible book, the prologue is unnecessary and pointless because we can just figure out on our own that there is a stalker coming. And speaking of the stalker, at least the parts I read, her parts are unnecessary as well. The book can go through from Emmy and Dan's point of view and still have readers understand there's a stalker without their point of view. When you read mystery stories like this, do you try to solve the murder—or in this case murders—or do you wait for the reveals?

I listened to the book's audio edition. I always love it when a book has multiple narrators and all of this book's narrators were superbly cast and did an outstanding job.
