Subject to availability) Paz Vizsla is a brawny warrior encased in the strongest beskar armor. A descendant of the esteemed House Vizsla, he comes from a long line of leaders spanning the centuries I was there on Nevarro that night. I fought against Greef Karga and his hunters. I saw my brothers and sisters fall at the hands of the Imperial butchers that hunted us in the sewers. I saw many die to save the life of this one, tiny foundling. And now we are asked to sacrifice yet again. The question we should be asking ourselves is, "Why? Why should we lay our lives down yet again?" Because we are Mandalorians! I have had my disagreements with this man, but he risked his life to save my son. And Bo-Katan Kryze did not give up on my child's life even when the rest of us did. These two are asking us to take up arms in the name of a brighter future, and I for one will take up arms to fight by their side. With Kryze and her Mandalorian followers defying the Empire, [11] the larger faction carried out the Great Purge of Mandalore, heavily bombing the surface of the planet and massacring many Mandalorians in what became known as the Night of a Thousand Tears. [5] Vizsla and other followers of the ancient way had been on Mandalore's moon of Concordia, and so survived the onslaught of the Night. The remaining Mandalorians subsequently scattered throughout the galaxy thereafter [5] and hid in Mandalorian coverts to preserve their numbers. During the reign of the New Republic, Vizsla resided with the Tribe in a covert [6] on the planet Nevarro. [12] Due to the Great Purge, the Tribe's members were forced to remain hidden in their enclave, [6] with Vizsla guarding the armory within as a heavy infantry Mandalorian. [13] In around 9 ABY, [2] Vizsla witnessed the Mandalorian bounty hunter [6] Din Djarin [14] enter the covert with a camtono of beskar. Vizsla and several other Mandalorians watched as Djarin gave the beskar to the Tribe's Armorer [6] and leader, [1] intending to have armor forged from it. Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of The Book of Boba Fett to 9 ABY. As the events of The Mandalorian Season Three, which includes " Chapter 23: The Spies," directly follow those of The Book of Boba Fett, the former must also take place around that year.

For Vizsla's weapon, art director Doug Chiang wanted something that could contrast Djarin's whistling birds and fork-shaped rifle. He coined a plasma laser that worked like a flamethrower, spilling onto the ground like molten lava upon the weapon's deactivation. Artist Christian Alzmann drew art for Chiang's idea. Matyas envisioned the Vizsla as the type to hold a gatling gun rather than the Western-style double pistols. The blaster cannon he ultimately designed [28] was intended to be a nod to the M56 Smartgun from the science fiction film Aliens. [29] Despite never being referred to by name in "Chapter 3: The Sin", the character was identified as "Paz Vizla" in the closing credits. He was subsequently renamed "Paz Vizsla" (the previous surname confirmed as a typo) in merchandise and for his reappearance in The Book of Boba Fett. [9] [16] [23] Critical reception [ edit ]Paz Vizsla appeared in " Chapter 3: The Sin" of the live-action Disney+ series The Mandalorian, [6] released on November 22, 2019. [23] While not identified in the episode, Paz Vizsla's name was given in the credits. When "The Sin" originally aired, its credits identified him as "Paz Vizla," though they were later updated to read "Paz Vizsla." [6] Vizsla was voiced by series creator Jon Favreau—a nod to his first role for producer Dave Filoni, the character of Pre Vizsla in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars [24]—and portrayed by Tait Fletcher, [6] who previously appeared as a trawler in the first episode of the series. [25] In " Chapter 5: Return of the Mandalorian" of the live-action series The Book of Boba Fett, which was directed by Bryce Dallas Howard [5] and released on January 26, 2022, [26] Vizsla was portrayed once again by Fletcher, with Rich Cetrone serving as stunt double. [5] In " Chapter 17: The Apostate," [16] released on March 1 2023, [27] the character's stunt double was Jeremy Fitzgerald. [16]
