About this deal

Not only does this MeacoCool 10000 CH provide you with the perfect cooling solution throughout summer, the reverse heat pump allows you to use it as a heater in the winter too, making it a investment you can use year-round. Basic physics dictates that portable air conditioners must be quite large, a bit noisy and not the prettiest appliances to have in the household. At 76.2cm in height, 47cm in width and 35.3cm in depth, the MeacoCool MC Series 14000 occupies the upper level of largeness.

As mentioned, this unit is also very lightweight compared to most portable air con units we've tested. The flipside of that is that the build quality does feels slightly flimsier than some alternative units I've tested. Like all air con units, when in Cool Mode the air duct needs to be positioned out of the window so you’ll just need to make sure it’s positioned close enough to a window to do this. Larger spaces need effective air conditioning and that’s what you get with the MeacoCool 10000. Specifically designed to cool bigger areas, this unit is fully portable, and has an Energy Rating of A, making it easy on your household or office bills. The 10000 CH has five modes: cool, fan, dry, heat and sleep. We’ve added a timer so that you can get your room to the right temperature before you need to use it – perfect for bedrooms and offices, but also great for making sure your reception rooms or conservatory is the right temperature before you get home after a long day. I also tested the Russell Hobbs RHPAC11001 Portable Air Conditioner Unit at the same time as the MeacoCool MC Series 7000BTU Portable Air Conditioner and while both are effective units, the MeacoCool MC Series 7000BTU Portable Air Conditioner is best suited to those seeking a compact and lightweight unit that's easy to move around the house or transport. In Cool mode, it hovered at around 667W with the fan speed set to low and rose to around 672W with the fan at high speed. That’s with the temperature set to its coldest level of 16℃, so over time that should fall to a lower level. This increased by approximately five decibels when the fan speed was increased to High speed. Energy use

To test out its cooling powers, I positioned the unit in a 4.5m by 4.5m room (approx. 15ft square) with higher than normal ceilings. You do this by removing the two filters at the rear of the unit and then using a hoover to clean both sides. Alternatively they can be cleaned with warm water. It's also a very affordable option compared to other models. It's not the most powerful option out there in terms of BTU, but Meaco offers plenty of alternative models, ranging from this the smallest 7000BTU through to a 14000BTU model.

A cost-effective air conditioner that works brilliantly – but it’s a little on the noisy side

Its slimline design is also perfect for those who are tight on storage space, as it can easily squeeze into a cupboard, under a worktop, or behind some furniture when it's not in use. If you can't do this, you'll have to use the supplied window ducts. You need to open a window, find the right fitting, and then attach the hose to it, dumping all that heat out where it's not bothering you any more. MeacoCool MC Series 14000 review: Verdict The MeacoCool comes with two types of window kits: the standard and the flexible window kit. The standard kit is suitable for sash windows, whereas the flexible window kit can be use with all window types. Air conditioner units work best when the hot air they are extracting is expelled outside the building. The MeacoCool comes with two types of window kits: the standard window kit and the flexible window kit. The standard window kit is suitable for sash windows, whereas the flexible window kit is suitable for all types of windows. The use of a window kit prevents warm air from outside entering the room, making the cooling more efficient.

We’ve also designed the air conditioning unit to be as user-friendly as possible. A timer switch allows you to set the air conditioner to cool a room before you use it – perfect for bedrooms or when entertaining – and a sleep mode option reduces both the fan speed and the noise to help you maintain comfort even in the hottest weather. It also comes with a handy remote control, ensuring you’re always in charge. We know it’s annoying to have to keep fiddling with your air conditioner units to get the temperature just right. We’ve added some great features to the MeacoCool range, to help you create the best environment for work, play or sleep. Our units are perfect for the areas in your home that get the hottest – conservatories, glass-roofed kitchen extensions, bedrooms, home offices and home gyms or exercise rooms. And they’re just as good in an office environment where you need to keep people comfortable to help them work productively. In low fan speed the sound pressure level of 53dB(A) makes this a easier unit to live with. To get the best out of your air conditioner we recommend pre-cooling rooms, for example a bedroom, before you need to use them so that the room is nice and cool when you need to use it. This makes it easier to The unit is small and light enough to manhandle from room to room, too, and small casters attached to the base make it easy to manoeuvre on hard floors. If you have carpet, however, you’ll have to lift it. MeacoCool MC 7000: How well does it cool?
