If you’re reading this, then you’re likely at the stage where you’re researching the best treadmill you can get for your budget. Reebok, one of the best-known and trusted brands in the sports industry, has consistently delivered reliable and competitively priced cardio machines over the years. Among their recent offerings, we had the opportunity to review the Reebok GT40z treadmill. Here’s what we found…Heart rate measurement via hand grip sensors and Bluetooth® Smart wireless receiver (chest strap optional) You will not need to worry about space if you have this machine. It also has a DKN Bluetooth chip feature that allows you to pair the machine with compatible devices. Once assembled, DKN’s intentions with this machine becomes very clear: create a realrunning machine for those on a tight budget that simply doesn’t compromise! We spent a few moments admiring the look of the looks of this treadmill – it manages to look both industrial grade and stylish. While Sweatband suggests that the treadmill can be put together easily by two people (there’s heavy lifting involved), I can’t attest to this as my review model was constructed for me. I have built treadmills solo in the past though, and while I wouldn’t recommend it, it is doable. Finally, there is a tablet holder and a little Bluetooth button. When this is pressed (the treadmill must be in standby mode), it activates the Bluetooth chip in the console and allows the treadmill to be paired with a compatible phone or tablet. The tablet holder can hold a phone or a tablet and there are a few apps that are compatible with DKN machines such as Kinomap which provides rolling videos and controls the incline of the machine to match the gradient of the terrain in the footage.

Other features include a Bluetooth Smart heart rate wireless receiver (worked flawlessly during our test), dual water bottle holders, tablet holder, and last but definitely not least, levelling feet that enable you to get the treadmill set up dead flat – which makes a difference! It reaches speeds up to 16km/h, which is fast enough for most, and it can ramp up or slow down the pace during the pre-set workouts (there are 36 in total) and your own routines. There are no incline or decline options, so it’s not one for advanced runners, but it is a reliable, affordable option for those who want to spice up their home workouts. If we’ve slapped a MH Lab Approved badge on one of these treadmills, that means it’s been given the thumbs up by our MH Lab testing team — no mean feat.You can maintain consistency by dialling at the same speed and having an easily viewable timer to ensure your intervals are on time. Hill workouts can also be optimised – you control the gradient and the speed, allowing runners to find the right balance to get what they need out of a training session.’ It is common to have a good-quality treadmill available with change from a grand that nevertheless dominates any space, with few options for moving it elsewhere. We are generally not a fan of folding treadmills but the EzRun strikes a good balance between having the convenience of a folding treadmill and the functionality and the stability of a non-folding treadmill.

There are cheap treadmills, there are expensive ones, and there are those that come with a hefty price tag, yet still feel very reasonably priced. Like most home-use treadmills, the EnduRun requires assembly. Thankfully, like other DKN treadmills, the setup is simple.The hardest part comes before starting the assembly: Getting the boxed machine with a weight of 135kg to the right place! This weight of the box is the first clue that this is a serious treadmill! After that, the assembly is simple and is complete in just four steps. The diagrams in the manual are nice and clear and while it’s certainly a two person job, there’s nothing in the slightest bit complicated about the build so we had everything ready to go in just under 30 minutes. True 1.75 Horsepower Continual Obligation Motor (3.5 HP Peak) and Good Velocity of 20kph for Sprint Practising; The EzRun hits the sweet spot for mid-priced models. It is so much better than the cheaper machines, without breaking the bank with a 4-figure price tag. The screen isn’t as big, but you can still enjoy the extensive range of iFit classes in all their glory, and unlike on the Pro-Form, you can rotate the screen towards your exercise mat for workouts.

All of this is controlled from a large, well-lit central console. The buttons are all accessible mid-run, so that you can adjust as you go, and everything seems pretty straightforward and user friendly. Pulse reading sensors in the central bars will flash your heartrate up on the console. In terms of programmes, there’s plenty to avoid boredom setting in. There are 18 pre-set programmes designed by a personal trainer and these have their speed and incline profiles printed on the console to avoid having to look in an instructions manual to figure out which one to go for. We’re pleased to see a selection of heart rate control programmes that work with an optional chest strap to take advantage of the of the built-in Bluetooth receiver and there are also 3 user-defined programmes for complete flexibility. Extras: Adjustable air fan, integrated device shelf, dual water bottle holder, floor level adjustment, transportation wheels It’s clear from what we can see under the motor hood that DKN are really trying to create the ultimate home treadmill for as their top of the range flagship model! So, what’s it like to actually run on? So how does this machine fare among the competition at this price point? If you’re making detailed comparisons of the spec sheets, you may notice that the EcoRun has a motor power output figure of 1.5 HP continuous duty, which isn’t the highest we’ve seen among budget treadmills. Therefore, it’s worth highlighting that occasionally motor power output figures of some manufacturers are somewhat ‘optimistic’! However, in this instance, having had the motor cover off and inspected more closely, we can confirm that the EcoRun easily has the largest (ie. most powerful) motor of any budget treadmill we’ve come across to date! The sheer power of the motor becomes apparent when the machine is running: it’s very quiet relative to similarly priced (and much higher priced) treadmills 🙂

What’s the downside of having a huge roller at the front driving the belt? The bigger the roller, the more torque is needed from the motor to drive it. DKN have taken the unusual step of opting for an AC motor to power the EnduRun. We can confirm that the motor provides oodles of power and happily drives the belt up to its very high max speed of 22 kph (over 13.5 mph!). AC motors are more reliable than traditional DC motors found in almost all home treadmills and can handle a much greater amount of use without needing servicing or maintenance. This is the reason that almost all commercial grade treadmills found in gyms are powered by AC motors. The reason that AC motors aren’t standard issue on home treadmills and DKN’s choice of motor is unusual? Price! AC motors tend to cost a fair bit more than their DC equivalents. All in all, it gives a lot for a little, making it one of my favourite folding treadmills in today’s market. Let’s give it the full lowdown in our DKN EzRun Treadmill review. DKN EzRun Treadmill Specs The JTX Sprint-3 is JTX’s entry-level treadmill. While this particular model did not make it into our Best Treadmills buying guide, other models such as the Sprint 7, Sprint 9, and Club-Max Commercial did – so if you can stretch your budget just a little more, we highly recommend doing so and at least investing in the Sprint 7.
