About this deal

I often prefer pale festbier to marzen, but I do enjoy both. That said, Ayinger’s Marzen is something special.

Spaten Brewery, a German brewery founded in 1397, has a long and rich history. Located in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, the brewery produces beers under the Spaten and Franziskaner brands. Over the centuries, it has become a prominent figure in the Bavarian beer-making tradition, representing both Munich and Germany in the global beer market. Paulaner is said to be the most popular lager in Bavaria and is also known as the ‘orginal Munich lager’ outside of Germany. It's said to truly reflect the German ethos towards great-tasting, pure, classic beer. Paulaner is easy-drinking and boasts mild malts, hints of sweetness and bitter hop notes. Expect a golden blonde colour, dry bitterness and a pure white head. By boiling a portion of the mash, we create a bright, dry maltiness,” says Tröegs Brewmaster and Co-Founder, John Trogner in an article for Brewbound. Peerless in its pursuit of brewing excellence, in 1841, just 1 year before the introduction of the pilsner in Pilsen, Bohemia, Spaten introduced the first amber-colored lager in Continental Europe, the Märzen. It reached the Bavarian market roughly at the same time as another amber lager, the Vienna lager of the Dreher Brewery, first graced the taps of the Austrian capital. In 1872, the Franziskaner-Leist Brewery, although not (yet) part of Spaten, but owned by Joseph Sedlmayr, brother of Gabriel the Younger, came out with a special Oktoberfest beer oddly named a “Märzen-Bier” brewed “the Vienna way.” The current Spaten Oktoberfest beer is still brewed largely according to that 1872 Franziskaner-Leist recipe. A year later, in 1873, Spaten commissioned the first ever continually operational refrigeration system, designed by Carl von Linde. About 2 decades later, in 1894, it became the first Bavarian brewery to brew a light-hued lager, Spaten Münchner Hell, using a variation of the 1842 Pilsner brewing method. See pilsner and linde, carl von.One of Spaten’s most popular offerings is its Premium Lager, also known as Münchner Hell. This bottom-fermented German lager boasts a 5.2% ABV, 21 IBUs, and is golden in color with a well-balanced hop flavor. The brewery is also famous for its Oktoberfest Ur Marzen, a traditional choice for Oktoberfest celebrations not only in Munich but around the world.

We find Whisper to be an ideal comparison to crisp weather celebrations and companionship,” writes the brewery in the beer’s Untappd description. “With a dense, billowing head and a remarkably creamy mouthfeel, this is a beer we are proud of and trust that you will enjoy as much as we do—Pröst!”

Smooth and rich from the plethora of malts, Whisper also includes just a…well…whisper of Noble hop character. The Oktoberfestbier is produced in spring to be sold in autumn for the Oktoberfest. It has >13.7° Plato wort and 5.9% of alcohol by volume.

In summary, Spaten Brewery offers a diverse range of beer styles, with the Spaten Münchner Hell, Oktoberfest, and Helles Lager being some of the most popular among beer aficionados. Each beer delivers a unique flavor profile, staying true to traditional brewing techniques. Ingredients and German Purity Law Here are a few versions from American craft brewers that put their own modern spin on the German classic. For the most part these versions will adhere to the more recognizable Märzen style that as we’ve mentioned has become popular here in the States. Oktoberfest Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu is one of the six brewers in Munich to brew beer for the Oktoberfest. [6] Products [ edit ] A bottle of Spaten

According to European Union regulations, only beers brewed by the aforementioned six breweries can use the label “Oktoberfest” (much like real champagne can only technically come from the Champagne region of France). All other breweries must call their seasonal lagers Oktoberfest-style beer. But that hasn’t stopped American brewers from using terms like Oktoberfest, Märzen, and Festbier pretty much interchangeably. To further confuse things, American breweries will often see beers with punny variations such as Oaktoberfest, Octoberfest, etc. Yes, Spaten beer is available in the United States. You can find Spaten Premium Lager, as well as other Spaten products, at various retailers and online stores. Who owns Spaten brewery?
