It has deep emotions. It has fun banter. The plot line is good. There were moments I got really excited. As a matter of fact, I was never bored. In a mafia book, this is very unusual for me. I guess for me, the success of this "putting the reader on trial" mentality is really about how subtle or well-executed it works. And I don't know this felt a little too obvious? She challenges him at every turn and turns him on at every corner. Their banter was the thing mu bookish dreams were made of.

The game of chess between these Monsters and the Queens who love them is getting more complicated than ever. I am actually stunned by how things moved and changed in this entry to the series. I am SO intrigued about where things will go in Brutal Vow (book 4, coming next year), and what that will mean for our characters.
