About this deal

Keep the whole family happy with Hisense’s entertainment options. The 65A85HTUK features the powerful VIDAA U operating system which delivers personalised, intuitive, and smart content all in one place.

Supporting all the latest formats of HDR10+, Dolby Vision IQ and HLG, images are brighter and more detailed with enhanced contrast levels. A Wide Colour Gamut brings a wider pallet of colours to life. Only vivid yet authentic colours are produced, so you’ll view images closer to the real world. Plus, you’ll get an enhanced experience with IMAX’s signature picture, sound, and scale in the comfort of your own home. Netflix retains its position of top dog in the app list, and below are rows of featured content from apps such as iPlayer, Disney+ and All4 that are refreshed regularly. It’s not without gremlins. The sample I had was prone to the bass dropping out (for reasons unknown). There was also odd distortion that I can’t pin down for sure but may be related to an HDMI handshake issue with a Panasonic 4K player. Both problems have calmed down over the review period. The speaker defaults to DTS Virtual:X out of the box, which is odd given the Atmos support.

Where to start with this larger model? Build quality is just as solid as the 55-inch set, the bezel is slim enough to have minimal impact on the screen, and the V-shaped pedestal has a bigger footprint – even more so at this size.

All picture and sound adjustments (aside from volume and mute) must be accessed from their repective setup menus. On the picture side, along with local dimming there are advanced settings to tweak gamma and white balance, as well as a full color management system, although those adjustments are best left to calibration professionals. Regular viewers interested in getting the best picture quality for movies would do well to start with Filmmaker mode, and any adjustments you make there can also be applied to the set’s other inputs. The delivery in Standard mode is deliberately flat and balanced, and while that works for everyday TV viewing, films demand more dynamism. The Theatre setting offers a bigger sound, but it isn’t one that escapes the confines of the TV. The setting also gives dialogue a slight boxed-in feel. When it comes to gaming, it's the high-end models where you'll get the best array of features. It's the same with the other brands and you always need to pay top prices for 120Hz displays, variable refresh rate (VRR), and graphics technology FreeSync or G-Sync. When I reviewed the 55U8QFT it had a few issues, several of which have been ironed out since launch. However, the bigger screen highlights some remaining niggles and shines a light on some that I hadn’t spotted before. Hisense hasn’t pursued any of the new-fangled TV features that have come to prominence recently, so there’s no VRR, ALLM, HFR or eARC; no Filmmaker mode, no Dolby Vision IQ or Netflix Calibrated mode. Materials” collectively means any Content, Submitted Content (where applicable and as further defined herein), messaging, blogging, chatting, social networking, information, advertising and/or internet links, etc., accessible or delivered through the Device. There’s blooming off-axis and, disappointingly, a slight shift in seating is all that’s needed for it to manifest. Also a problem is a green tint to shadows. You can see a green emphasis on the wall behind Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Far From Home in the Dolby Vision Dark profile that isn’t apparent in the Dolby Vision Bright mode – and this issue ranges from slight to more visible, depending on the content. Hisense TVs sit on store shelves beside models from some of the most established and admired TV manufacturers. It makes OLED, QLED and LCD TVs, so all bases are covered, and they are some of the cheapest money can buy. Televisions that cost less than the popular competition have made Hisense the fifth most popular TV brand in the UK. But low prices will only get you so far and, in previous years, Hisense's seat at the table has been more like the folding chair you drag out of the spare room when you have guests than the padded luxury enjoyed by some of its rivals.New Hisense A85H OLED Smart TV. Self-luminous OLED with intelligent algorithm allows you to see the pitch darkness in great detail. OLED Colour provides over a billion shades of colour with precision, reveal the vividness and richness of the real world. And remarkably clear and fluid images are played on the dazzling screen with native 120Hz refresh rate.

Switch effortlessly between all your favourite shows, movies and more with the wide range of built in apps. Coming with Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV, and BBC iPlayer there’s something for everyone. And, with Freeview Play, you’ll have access to over 40,000 TV shows on-demand as well as over 700 box sets all subscription free. Just connect to your home’s Wi-Fi to get started. HDR10+, Dolby Vision and Dolby Vision IQ are more advanced. They can adjust contrast to suit each scene. HDR10+ and Dolby Vision IQ can also react to the ambient light in your room. Otherwise, it has features you don't normally find on TVs at this price range. It has VRR support, although over the narrow 48-60Hz range. It doesn't support HDR10+ like the more expensive models, but it does have Dolby Vision, which is more widespread. It doesn't support advanced DTS audio formats, but it does support DTS 5.1 over ARC. It has good response time and superbly low input lag, so it's a decent gaming TV overall. Ultimately, this is the best cheap TV on the market, and it's almost as good as the more expensive U6K.

Whether you're looking at Hisense's flagship or budget-friendly models, they offer better value than similarly-priced options from competitors. Hisense TVs are often among our mid-range and budget-friendly recommended TVs. Hisense could also be spending less on R&D and tuning its TVs. It's not like all these brands put a few components in a thin plastic case and ship them all over the world. Each TV goes through tuning and quality control to make sure the picture and sound look as a good as possible. This is expensive and time-consuming, but how expensive and time-consuming really depends. Hisense could keep costs down by spending less time on this important step.
