About this deal

Once dry, add a coat of Clear Chalk Paint™ Wax. You can do this with a lint-free cloth but a Chalk Paint™ Wax Brush will make it easy to get into any carvings or details. Hello, I’m Annie Sloan. I’m going to show you my signature technique, which is two tone distress. The idea is that you have one colour underneath, you put another colour on top, you wax it, you distress it using sandpaper, and you can see the colour underneath. Yes, you can mix Rub n’ Buff colors to achieve a custom antique gold finish. Experiment with small amounts of different colors until you achieve the desired effect. Is Rub n’ Buff Waterproof for Outdoor Use? Paint your piece of furniture in Chalk Paint™ moving your brush in every direction for a textured finish. Within 15 minutes you can apply a second coat of paint, after an hour it is touch dry and after 2 hours it is safe to handle. The paint will be fully set and dry after 3 hours. Is it easy to clean up?

A chalk paint's coverage claims should be taken with a grain of salt because of how widely varying each project is. Darker woods, for example, will require more product or coats to cover, especially if you’re using a lighter paint color. If you're going for a weathered look, full coverage might not be that important. You might even like the way the wood looks when it shows through. All things considered, 1 ounce of chalk paint will typically cover 1 to 3 square feet. It’s all looking good but what I’m going to add is a second colour, which I’ll sort of use to highlight and slightly blend in. So I’m going to put it throughout the centre part, I think. Not everywhere, just in parts and not equally. Don’t get it too balanced. Otherwise, it’s too predictable. If it’s too flat, you don’t get that lovely authentic uneven look. Each piece of furniture you can’t just go from rule of thumb. I’d start with a medium and then maybe go on to the coarse one. So I’m just going to gently sand that and work out how far I want to go. Now I find I’m having to rub harder than I want, so I want more to come out so I’m going to use the coarse one now. And very gently – shouldn’t be hard – do you see what’s happened? It’s revealed some of the Giverny there. So I’m going to go more Protective waxing or a sealer coat of polyurethane can extend the life of chalk paint. Experts recommend sealing chalk paint finishes with a protective wax to prevent wear and tear, especially in high-traffic areas or high-touch surfaces. For peace of mind, brands like Rust-Oleum and others provide their own protective top coats designed for use with their chalk paint. So I’ve got this old piece of furniture and I’ve painted it many times over the years so it’s got a lot of texture on it. It’s an old looking piece… probably not that old, but it’s an old looking piece and so I want to give these bits here a nice gilded look and I’m going to use… it’s called ‘Warm Gold’, but it’s really like the colour of Victorian gold. It’s warm, very slightly coppery and red. I’m going to use that mainly and then I’m going to use just a little bit of the light, brighter gold.

Rub n’ Buff’s European Gold has a brighter, more yellow tone, while Antique Gold has a warmer, more brown tone. Antique Gold is better suited for creating an aged, antique look. Can I Mix Rub n’ Buff Colors to Achieve an Antique Gold Finish? Covers up to 12m2 per litre. The coverage may vary depending upon the method and rate of application and porosity of the furniture surface. How long does it take to dry? You can’t do it like you’re just cleaning something: you just polish it all off. You’ve really got to use the – these are great because they’re flexible, you can do them how you want. By using the wax to begin with it doesn’t take it off too easily. Some places I’ve gone right through to the wood there I really like that. I think it works for this very, very nicely. Some of you won’t want to use your finger. I like it because it’s sensitive, but you could put a cloth over it, or you could use a brush. It’s just that you have to be a little bit more sensitive to it, but it’s fine. It’s your choice. Y’all this stuff is so easy. I’ve been wanting to add some gold accents around our new rustic beach cottage, but I didn’t want to spend any money.

I’ve waxed everything with the Clear Wax and now I’m going to sand it. I’m going to use my Sanding Pads. They’re really good because you’ve got the medium one, that’s the green one. The pink one is a fine one, and the blue one is coarse. Now usually I’ll start with the medium one and the coarse one because the fine one is for when I’ve sort of want to finish Our Antique Gold Shabby Chic Furniture Paint leaves a metallic finish which you can apply without the need of an undercoat or primer. Why? Because it’s so richly pigmented!

Once your base colour is dry, use a clean Chalk Paint™ Brush to apply the second colour. This coat can be thinner than the first to make it easier to sand through to the base colour. Paint your piece of furniture in Chalk Paint® moving your brush in every direction for a textured finish. So that’s too much. So you’re gonna spread that out a long way, so a small amount of wax does go a long way. I’ll take my cloth and very lightly, not going mad. I’m just removing any excess, that’s all there is. Allow the wax to cure (harden) before use. It will be touch dry within 24 hours, but will take up to 2 weeks to fully harden. You can use it during this time, just be gentle. Rub n’ Buff is not recommended for outdoor use as it is not waterproof and may deteriorate when exposed to moisture. Can I Use Rub n’ Buff on Metal for an Antique Gold Finish? This paint dries to the touch in 30 minutes. However, if you’re looking for a more opaque finish, you’ll have to wait at least two hours between coats. While primer isn't necessary with this chalk paint, it is highly suggested for unfinished wood. You also don't need to sand your surface for the paint to adhere. If paint gets on the floor by accident, the latex formula makes it easy to clean up with just soap and water. Wipe away any sanding dust and apply a final coat of Clear Chalk Paint™ Wax. This will seal and protect this piece. Contrary to popular belief, chalk paint is incredibly versatile and can be used to paint fabrics as well as furniture and vases. Almost any chalk paint will work well on fabric, but we prefer Country Chic, because it is inexpensive and comes in more than 50 different colors.

Since VOCs (volatile organic compounds) are released into the air as paint cures and have been linked to a wide range of health problems, it is reassuring to know that Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint is free of them. The paint is a water-based with impressive adhesive qualities that will save you time when painting. When using chalk paint, there is no need to sand or prime the surface first. Yes, Rub n’ Buff can be used on metal surfaces to achieve an antique gold finish. Make sure the surface is clean and dry before applying. Can Rub n’ Buff be Used on Picture Frames for an Antique Gold Finish? So now I’m ready to wax. This is my Clear Wax and this is my Wax Brush, this is a bristle brush it’s nice and pointy and it goes in all the little bits that I need, to all the nooks and crannies. So you get quite a lot of wax on it, not too much – you don’t want to overload it – and then you get going. To use the chalk paint on upholstery, evenly spray the fabric with water, and brush on the chalk paint (you may want to dilute it slightly). If necessary, apply a second or third coat of paint to get the desired effect. You can successfully transform a side chair or even an entire sofa with this chalk paint in minutes. Dust can prevent paint from adhering to upholstery, so be sure to clean and vacuum the surface before beginning. The paint is free of chemicals like phthalates, formaldehyde, or heavy metals and comes in 4-, 16-, and 32-ounce containers, so you can choose the right size for your needs.

Tips & How To's

So to do it, I’m just going to put a little bit on my finger… a tiny bit and then I’m going to start wiping just to show up the relief. And because there’s quite a bit of texture in the paint, it’s not applying it flatly, which is perfect. Stir your pot thoroughly prior to use to ensure the colour is properly mixed. If applying by brush, apply evenly following the grain of the wood. If rolling, use a short nap mohair roller. Apply Annie Sloan Gilding Wax in two colours (e.g. Bright Gold and Warm Gold) building up the wax in layers for an authentic, uneven look. For the best results when using the Antique Gold Shabby Chic Furniture Paint, ensure the surface is clean and free from wax or oil. If wax has been used clean the surface thoroughly with white spirit. We recommend that bare wood should be sanded before painting. Applying your Antique Gold Shabby Chic Furniture Paint I’m planning my daughters vintage chic bedroom makeover, and a part of the makeover will include aged gold accents or vintage gold tones.
