About this deal

The wash is then distilled in copper-pot stills, with Glengoyne’s slow distillation process setting it apart from other distilleries in Scotland. Aging

Palate: Very strong oak, can definitely taste the barrel. Tingles the tongue. But very sweet, apples and apricots. Water actually brings out more oak, but other citrus flavours which help to soften it. Honey and treacle. With hints of pepper and spice. Almonds. Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform. We do not sell, nor does the Service provide any option to buy, any alcoholic products. However, it is recommended to consume the remaining 25% of the bottle sooner rather than later, as the flavor may start to deteriorate over time. Glengoyne 12: Specs Type of Whisky Finish: The sherry is more dominant on the finish, with distinct notes of berry jam and fruit juice. Fades with hazelnuts and no bitterness. Smell: Honey, apple and orange zest. Toffee. Malted barley. Shortcrust pastry. Woody spice. Touch of sherry. Vanilla.

Overall: This malt has a lot going for it. Despite the recalcitrant nose, there is a delectable balance of nutty and fruity notes on the palate that is unrivaled by sherried malts in this price range. The balance here is impeccable, and the finish is flawless – no overly-wooded character flaws. While I still prefer GlenDronach for all-in sherry, this malt contends with Balvenie DoubleWood 12 for the “mid-priced partially sherried malt” slot in my cabinet. My first visit to Glengoyne distillery came in the latter half of 2014 during a session of John Lamond‘s fantastic Whisky Certificate Course. This eight week long night class covered the entirety of the whisky-making process and gave a detailed history of the industry, from its beginnings with Friar John Cor to the growth of the blending giants and the modern explosion of single malts. Towards the culmination of the course there was a class outing to a local distillery and since we were based in Glasgow, this gave only two realistic options: Auchentoshan and Glengoyne. This time-tested method of drinking whisky has been embraced by the Scots and is recommended to enhance your whisky-drinking experience. Alcohol contentWe sampled this bottle on the 14th of November 2012. Although it was harsh at first and had very divided opinions, it is actually a very pleasant dram. As with all cask strength whiskies, it improves with a dash of water. Glengoyne 12 is a non-chill-filtered Scotch, allowing it to retain more flavors and appeal to discerning whisky enthusiasts. Here, I’ve immersed myself in the art of crafting Mezcal, gaining a newfound appreciation for the craftsmanship that goes into distilling this ancient spirit. It shares similarities with Glenfarclas 12, although Glenfarclas tends to have a slightly warmer profile. Is it smoky?
