About this deal

Getting your room acoustics on point is half the battle when it comes to making the best out of your audio system.

This 2-way active speaker has an AB amplifier embedded in the left speaker. You’ll also find connections and controls for the speaker on the left speaker. One limitation to this speaker is that you can't swap which speaker functions as a left or right speaker. If you want a flexible speaker placement, you can achieve it with the available audio connections and how long your power cable is. The shift is noticeable, albeit not exactly massive. For light studio tasks, it is capable, and they are a functional pair of monitors for light mixing and editing work. It’s also worth noting that the speakers bluetooth will play at the same time as any physically connected devices. With no way of turning off the bluetooth module, anybody previously paired to your speaker can play over your DJ set with ease. Our Thoughts The DM 40 monitors are missing some strength and accuracy in the top end. Each speaker has 21W of power behind them – this is not a lot, but more than enough to practice your mixing skills comfortably, and casually enjoy music, movies, and games. Very very happy I spent the extra money to get these. I'll update this review if my experience with and opinion of these speakers ever change. What does stand out is that Pioneer succeeded in delivering on its promise of low distortion. Even as the speakers get quite loud, there is no noticeable harshness. The specially engineered ducts cut down on impediments and produce a clean, grand, low-end oomph regardless of your volume levels. Class AB Amplifiers Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 27th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.)

The other half of the story is the Production Mode. This mode aims to flatten out the response to a more neutral setting. The goal is to allow these monitors to pull double duty by being a viable option for music production where neutrality is critical. For a small speaker, the DM-40 sound simply superb and punch harder than their small footprint would suggest. The included convex diffusers use DECO technology from Pioneer’s sister brand TAD audio. The afore mentioned diffuser helps spread the high frequencies. Ensuring wide, even coverage around the room, reducing the need to sit directly in front the speaker to achieve the best listening experience. Truthfully, the bass isn’t excellent, but it's not bad either. But you would only appreciate it when you play it alongside a speaker that functions in a similar capacity as this speaker. It would fill up a small, enclosed space. Nevertheless, the bass is still punchy, warm, and deep enough for beginner DJs. Our only advise regarding the speaker is to take care when handling and moving the DM-40. Because the speaker uses a soft dome tweeter and doesn’t feature speaker grills it can be easy to dent, ruining not only the look but the sound of the speaker. DM-40 Sound QualityAlthough the connections are great for cheaper equipment, the DM-40 doesn’t feature any balanced connections. We don’t really expect any of the DM-40’s target market will be bothered by this exclusion though. With only more professional speakers and equipment requiring such a connection. Pioneer DJ know their ways around the dance world, and this knowledge seems to have seeped into building the DJ DM 40 speakers. The DM 40s come with two-meter long audio cables, power leads, and some foam cushions that act as miniature isolation pads. But these are not up to the task of more intense studio work or a professional setting which is not surprising considering the price point. The target market is not studio professionals, but beginners who want the best of both worlds, and the DM-40D does an admirable job filling that role. You can always trust that any product from Pioneer always comes with fantastic design and high-quality build Quality. The first thing you might notice about this speaker is that it has curved front edges that are not just for beauty.

According to Pioneer, the DJ DM 40 units are made to be very user-friendly when it comes to connectivity.

The amplifiers in the DJ DM 40 speakers are designed to ensure minimal levels of low distortion, even when cranking the volume. The tweeters and woofers are both aligned with each other so that there is no crossover between them. We tested the Pioneer monitors in a small studio, where we had already performed an acoustic measurement, and based on the results, the acoustic treatment was also done. On the walls were printed sound-absorbing panels depicting instruments and parametric diffusers in a rather modern style. In a music studio, perfect musical piece of work can only be made if the acoustics of the place are properly treated with the right acoustic elements.
