About this deal

London Dry Gin: The old guard brands mostly distill London Dry-style gin in the UK, although it does not actually have a geographical indicator. The main rules of this designation are that juniper must be the dominant flavor (as it is for all gin) and botanicals must flavor the gin during distillation, with no flavor or color added afterwards. Brands like Beefeater and Tanqueray are classics for a reason, but the world of gin has expanded enormously over the past 20 years as new distilleries tinker with the formula. Clarity: Clarity is everything. Clarity of flavour. Clarity of mind, clarity of spirit, clarity or purpose etc. Clarity even of the liquid itself – a lot of liquids are cloudy. Inspired by the historical distinction of London Dry gin, Salcombe Distillery Company intends to set a benchmark for flavour in the alcohol-free sphere with the release of New London Light, its first non-alcoholic spirit. We spoke to co-founder and director Howard Davies to find out more about the bottling, the first in a series for the distillery…

IF you love the taste of alcohol but the thought of a hangover makes you shiver, then may we bring to your attention some of the best non-alcoholic gins for your consideration. As well as their flavours, the botanicals were chosen for their health benefits as they are filled with nutrients and bio active compounds that are great for the body and brain. In addition, New London Light is sugar free, allergen free, vegan friendly and low calorie. There is huge growth ahead with a particular area of interest being the on-trade which is developing rapidly'

Gin isn't just from England and the U.S. Distilleries all over the world produce versions that try to capture the character of where they're made. There are three main categories. Distilled gin is produced from a mash of grains in the same way that whiskey might be. Redistilled gin is a neutral grain spirit that has been distilled a second time. And compound gin is a neutral grain spirit that’s been infused with flavors (this is the least common style). While you can use nearly any botanical you can think of to flavor gin, juniper is the key ingredient. There are two ways to infuse the botanical flavors into gin—either by macerating them in the spirit, or suspending them in what is essentially a large tea bag above the spirit and infusing the gin with vapors. Then there are a few different styles of gin to consider. Gin has become hugely popular again over the last few years for its floral, fragrant taste and how light it is paired with all different types of tonics. If you’re looking to journey through London’s West End via your whisky glass, the fourth release from London distillery Bimber’s Spirit of the Underground collection will let you do just that. In contrast to the fortified wine finishes of Release No.3, the latest editions all focus on full-term maturations that have been bottled at natural cask strength and without filtration. The London Dry style rose to prominence in the 19th century as the gold standard for gin production. At a time when such spirits were produced “in rather dubious fashions of very varied quality,” says Davies, the designation guaranteed that the bottling hadn’t been doctored post-distillation. “London Dry was introduced to put some kind of assurance to the consumer about the quality of the gin they were consuming,” he says. The style set a standard for production that continues to this day.

Or, if mojitos are more your thing, then be sure to sample a bottle of Salcombe rum, made with a careful blend of molasses and unrefined sugar . For all the flavour without the headache, don't miss out on Salcombe's non-alcoholic aperitif, New London Light : available in modern, innovative flavours like Midnight Sun and Aegean Sky. Taste: We don’t just want to focus on how it tastes, but we really want to convey that NLL tastes fantastic. Better than anything in the category. Taste has not been compromised, despite removing alcohol. Taste is what we do well. Maison Ferrand released its limited edition Premier Cru 10 Générations Cognac to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit in January. In 2023, I think further innovation will be the key development with more advanced techniques for obtaining delicate flavours in non-alcoholic drinks being developed as well as taste/flavour combinations breaking new barriers in originality and moving away from traditional alcoholic drink flavours. There have been a lot of entrants to the market and progressively the quality of products out there have continually improved which has been great to see, alongside this consumer attitude to the no/low sector has moved on a long way; it is much more of a social norm to not drink alcohol and the interest and growth in this sector has been huge.

Hayman’s highly-rated gin catalog features a London dry (with a current aggregated score of 90), a Navy Strength gin (94), an Old Tom (92), Exotic Citrus gin and two varieties of sloe gin . If you're searching for the perfect accompaniment to your glass of tonic, look no further than the classic Salcombe gin. Their Start Point London dry is distilled using the one-shot method, using fresh spring water from Dartmoor National Park infused with fresh lemon, grapefruit peel, and Macedonian juniper. For something a little fruitier, why not try Salcombe's rosé gin? Inspired by the flavours and scents of Southern France, the Rosé Sainte Marie blends juniper and sweet red fruit with rose and lavender botanicals. Inspired by gin making principles, New London Light Original unites Salcombe Distillery’s expertise in developing exceptional taste, with our vision to enjoy life’s adventures with flavour and complete clarity.

A classic Negroni is made of three spirits: gin (London Dry), Campari and sweet (red) vermouth. That rich, delightfully bittersweet mix of citrus, herb and juniper can be recreated with a good alcohol-free gin, Crodino (an alcohol-free Italian Aperitivo with a very similar flavour profile to Campari) and non-alcoholic vermouth like Martini Vibrante - which is available online. Another month, another celebrity bringing out a spirits brand. In January it was the turn of Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa, who has created a new sustainable vodka that will make its debut at wine and spirits show WSWA Access Live in Florida, US. New London Light Original (NLL) is a critically acclaimed, bold and refreshing non-alcoholic spirit with an outstanding spectrum of flavour. With its delicious full body, complex layers and thirst-quenching zest, NLL is making waves in the low and no alcohol category as it looks to set a new standard in taste. The resulting 55%-ABV liquid offers a nose of toasted marshmallow, sandalwood, sugar plums, marzipan and creamed corn. The palate follows with hints of ‘winter campfire, mesquite barbecue, leather, piped tobacco, cedar and bone marrow’. A new year is upon us. Often at this time of year we think about our goals for the year- maybe this year it’s about reducing your alcohol intake? Or perhaps you want a dry month? Look no further then non-alcoholic New London Light (known as NLL) gin. This cookie is set by Rubicon Project to control synchronization of user identification and exchange of user data between various ad services. New London Light takes its inspiration from its birthplace in South Devon. Indeed, it is named after the lighthouse that marks the entrance to the harbour in Long Island South. This lighthouse served as a beacon of light for the Salcombe Fruit Schooners trading cargoes of fruit and spices with the New World. It maintains its roots by being distilled and crafted at a waterside distillery in South Devon. Finish: Smooth and slightly drying. A tangy peachiness turns herbaceous, with fragrant lemongrass, fresh coriander and a hint of menthol. Overall, this has incredible promise, and I've rated this product based on both the current state (maybe 3/5) and future promise (easy 5/5)

Nose: Bursting with fresh lime zest and orange sherbet. A whiff of cardamom and violet, underpinned by a piney juniper note. In addition to the core focus of taste, we are very proud of our production process for New London Light in which the heart of each liquid is produced either through traditional or vacuum distillation in our waterside distillery in Salcombe by our team, prior to then having further specialist botanical extracts blended in with our partners; we believe we are fairly unique in being a core part of the production process rather than just having this outsourced. For a bit more context, it's one of the ways we experience flavor of something we're eating -- you might be familiar with the old "experiment" where you hold your nose and someone gives you a small cube of apple and/or a small cube of potato to eat, without saying which they're giving you. The vast, vast majority of people (if they are truly holding their nose and not cheating) will *not* be able to tell these apart. This is because a big part of taste is actually smell (hence why you can't taste much when you have a cold/stuffy nose)! It derives its predominant flavour from juniper berries and is a distilled alcoholic drink that originated as a medicinal liquor. It is perfectly timed as recent research shows that four in five bars are planning to increase their low-alcohol range in 2023 to meet the needs of the consumer who wants to drink in moderation.”
