About this deal

Little Green Sheep are well known for the quality and safety of their baby products and their mattress protectors are popular for this reason. Their organic waterproof mattress protector is manufactured to a high standard being Oeko-Tex Class 1 certified for babies and toddlers. Make sure your baby’s mattress is in good condition and that it fits the Moses basket or cot properly. I asked Little Green Sheep directly about the safety and breathability of their mattress protector and they told me 'It is all woven together, so the whole item is breathable'.

It is designed to fit most basket sizes and carrycots. It is made from 100% organic cotton with a 100% waterproof membrane layer preventing liquid reaching the mattress. This luxury cotton protector is super soft, absorbent and breathable and is designed to soak up the liquid rather than let it pool much like how a nappy works. If you are very tight for space, you may have to consider re-arranging the furniture in the room because a baby’s cot should always be positioned away from: Pillow use alone has been shown to increase the chance of SIDS occurring by up to 2.5 times. It is much safer to sleep your baby in a clear, flat, separate sleep space . Plagiocephaly (‘flat head syndrome’)It is more expensive than the generic protectors you can buy but it costs more to make a protector that is compliant and safe for babies. If you are at all concerned about safety then the Little Green Sheep Organic mattress protector is for you. mattress protector sizes for moses baskets We understand that plagiocephaly usually corrects itself within a year, but if you feel it is severe you may want to speak to your health professional or seek corrective treatment. Our advice for using a second-hand mattress This easy-care mattress protector is designed with a smart system of layers that create a barrier which helps to reduce allergies. It's important the liquids do not get a chance to enter the mattress as they can be difficult to clean and it means your mattress will be out of action. Fluids such as vomit or posseting milk can cause rapid bacterial growth causing a danger to your baby. This product is Oeko® Standard 100 certified, which means it’s free from any harmful substances and kind to your baby's delicate skin, as well as the environment.

Generally we would advise it is safest to have a new mattress for each baby. However, we know this is not always possible. There is some research that found an increased chance of SIDS when using a second-hand mattress brought in from outside of the family home, although the link is not yet proven. The Lullaby Trust has no evidence that putting twins in the same cot in the early months places them at greater risk of sudden infant death. When our children were smaller we kept two protectors so we could change them over at night with minimal fuss. Oftentimes if your baby has an accident and you removed the fitted sheet and mattress protector and replace it with a clean moses basket fitted sheet you can bet the same thing will happen again soon after and end up wetting the mattress because you've put your only protector in the wash. Dudu N Girlie mattress protectorsThe same ‘safer sleep’ rules apply to a travel cot. It should have a rigid frame and base, and a firm, flat mattress that is covered in a waterproof material.

Do not use a sheepskin in a cot or Moses basket or other sleep space. It is important that baby’s sleep space is firm, flat and has a waterproof cover. Adding a sheepskin can reduce firmness and risk overheating. Avoid using soft or bulky bedding They are fully machine washable and safe for use in a tumble dryer making them easier to keep clean. Also because of the 100% waterproof layer it also acts as a barrier to dust mites and allergens that may otherwise irritate your baby. The safest place for a baby to sleep is in their own clear, flat, separate sleep space, such as a cot or Moses basket. Cot bumpers can post the risk of an accident to your baby once they begin to roll and move about the cot.
