About this deal

John F. Kennedy was a man before he was a monument, and among the great achievements of this wonderful book is how brilliantly Fredrik Logevall conveys both JFK’s humanity and the history of the age. With precision and with grace, Logevall has given us a memorable portrait of a man and of the world that, before he shaped it, shaped him. It’s a powerful, provocative, and above all compelling book.” —Jon Meacham, Pulitzer Prize–winning author of The Soul of America

Oswald’s visit to Mexico City a few weeks before the assassination — the crucial event which caused the Warren Commission to be set up; Powaski, Ronald E. "John F. Kennedy, the Hawks, the Doves, and the Cuban Missile Crisis, 1962." in American Presidential Statecraft (2017) pp. 11-65.

Richard Trask, Pictures of the Pain: Photography and the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy (Yeoman Press, 1994; ISBN 0–9638595–0–1), is well–documented, and covers both still photographs and the surprisingly large number of home movies that record various aspects of the event. The book is very strong on the experiences of the individual photographers and film–makers. What follows is a guide for those wishing to find out more about the Kennedy assassination without wasting their time on sensationalist potboilers and paranoid everything–is–a–conspiracy craziness.

Visitors to the above–mentioned forums will find it difficult to avoid the occasional example of name–calling and other abusive behaviour. Two Google newsgroups, alt.conspiracy.jfk and alt.assassination.jfk, contain little other than insults and name–calling. They can be recommended for anyone who feels the urge to let off steam, though not for anyone who wants to find out anything useful about the JFK assassination. Schlesinger, Arthur M.
