Description

Mizz readers could post comments in this section of the magazine. They usually talked about celebrities, brilliant sections of the magazine or stuff that they really like. A Star Letter was chosen every fortnight. The writer of the Star Letter used to get a T-shirt. You could also post "text messages" and say "hi" to your friends. Other sections of the Say What? section were "Get It Or Regret It" section which show items that the editor likes, a "Top Pet" section which readers show their pets and a "Sizzlin and Fizzlin" Sarah also spent ten years as a journalist and magazine editor, writing for a wide range of publications, from The Guardian to Mizz magazine. She was a UNESCO City of Literature Writer in Residence in Krakow in 2017, and she is currently a mentor for All Stories, working with underrepresented writers who are unable to pay for support. Endorsements Launched in 1978, it's best remembered for its 80s heyday, with the likes of Boy George, Bananarama and Wham! and later Tiffany, A-Ha and Bros ("We used to read Smash Hits at school, and now we're on the cover - weird!") gracing its covers. Such stars also lived and died by the Smash Hits readers' poll. In 2012 online version of Mizz was started. [2] However, the magazine folded in 2013. [7] Say what? edit

I absolutely relied on the clear-sightedness and sensitivity of Sarah’s editing. She spotted errors and inconsistencies; she honed and improved and encouraged. My books owe her a lot! The Lighthouse were brilliant at shepherding me in the right direction. Sarah could have pointed out the million things wrong with my book, but instead she identified what was working, where I needed to hone my craft, and where my writing came alive.

Our passion is for high-quality writing that appeals to children and young adults. We have a deep understanding of what agents are looking for (and what they’re not looking for!), and a wide knowledge of the children’s book market.

Renaissance woman Gevinson is now moving into acting at the age of 20, but Rookie is still going strong under her editorship. Tavi Gevinson first came to public attention as a 12-year-old with her precocious fashion blog Style Rookie in 2008. The blog, written from her home in middle-class suburban Chicago, soon had tens of thousands of readers, and led to Gevinson being interviewed by the New York Times, attending the world's biggest fashion weeks and modelling for cult US brand Rodarte. I gained immeasurably from Sarah’s keen editor’s eye, her insight and empathy, and her deep understanding of the world of children’s literature. I wish I could work with her on all my books! Mizz was first published in April 1985. [3] [4] In March 2006 the magazine was sold by IPC Media to Panini UK. [5] [6] The magazine was published on a fortnightly basis [5] [6] until 2012 when its frequency was changed to monthly. [2] Launched with a free issue given away with Smash Hits in 1984, J-17, as it soon became known, was the market leader in young women’s mags for a decade. Despite the name, it was primarily read by 13-14 year olds who wanted to feel older and more sophisticated, in the know with slang like 'crush', 'snog' and 'boyf'.The Lighthouse is run by its Director, Sarah Stewart, assisted by a brilliant freelance team. Sarah Stewart As Fiction Editor at Scholastic Children’s Books, she acquired the best-selling Tom Gates series by Liz Pichon (winner of the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, the Red House Book Award, and the Waterstone’s Prize, and now translated into 36 languages). She was UK editor on The Hunger Games and the Captain Underpants series, and edited Dan Freedman’s Jamie Johnson series (now a CBBC TV show).
