Description

Manuka honey has been found to have the highest level of non-peroxide (antibacterial) activity , a unique quality originating from the manuka plant itself . Once your honey is in place, you’ll need to cover it with a bandage or dressing to keep it in place. An occlusive dressing (air and water-tight) is the best because it provides a total seal. Anti-inflammatory activity: The phenolic content of honey is believed to be responsible for its anti-inflammatory properties. That along with its sugar and non-sugar content helps the body take care of itself and power-up its immunity.

Antioxidant activity: Antioxidants help our bodies protect themselves. The contents of antioxidants in honey drastically varies between the different types, with manuka honey at the upper end of the spectrum . Medical grade manuka honey has an acidic pH — between 3.2 and 4.5. When applied to wounds, this low pH environment is conducive to healing.

Can you eat raw Manuka honey?

Fruit, cheese, spices, herbs and nuts are all best friends with honey, and it also brings out the sweetness in roast root vegetables such as honey roast carrots . Manuka honey originated in New Zealand, and it is made from nectar collected by bees that forage on the wild manuka tree, which give it a distinctive flavour. But what about its supposed health benefits?

Manuka honey can be applied topically at any stage of wound healing, although be sure to consult your doctor before trying it.

Some store-bought honeys won’t have the same health benefits that others do. The best honeys to use on wounds are the highest UMF™ grade NZ manuka honeys. What’s the difference between honey and Medihoney?
