This is a story told from two very different vantage points, and while they are on opposing sides throughout the novel, in the end.

New and familiar characters abound, voiced by a bright mix of performers, including Kat Dennings, Regé-Jean Page, Emma Corrin, Michael Sheen, Kristen Schaal, Brian Cox, John Lithgow, Jeffrey Wright, and so many more, including fan-favorite narrators Simon Vance and Ray Porter. I also enjoyed how the author included the famous incidents of Jack the Ripper and Nellie Bly into the tale. Best-selling author Mark Manson brings his signature no-nonsense wisdom back to the subject he started his career covering: relationships. I can't say I liked Cora that much, although she was an interesting mix of selfishness, impetuosity and naivety. Her husband dies of a heart attack, and although the marriage was more of convenience she did have some heart, but quickly finds out that she has been left a widow with nothing.Pringle realizes that that she can put her acting skills to use and with the help of her new beau, Everette their scheme works, they are able to contact the dead for others. Following Cora’s and Amelia’s challenges take us on a ride with plenty of surprises, and we somehow manage to root for both of them. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins.

Poor Everett soon discovers that Cora is a liability, but refuses to walk away from their relationship. Until a reporter knows something smells and does all she can to oust them, and they are then worse off then before- as she has been shown to be a fraud and once again people are turning their backs. She built herself up in life with a stable home, a stable husband, a comfortable amount of wealth shared, and a circle of friends that was enough. What follows is an entertaining story of one woman's pursuit of fame and another's determination to end that pursuit and establish herself as a creditable journalist. This was less successful than most of the other books for me because it was a rehash of all the Mrs.

Cora must use every bit of her wit and guile to make ends meet, and becomes a nearly overnight sensation as a spiritualist medium.
