About this deal

The opening chapters show us a Banecroft in even worse shape than before, and his odd behaviour has only gotten worse. In this book we pick up a short time after the events of Book 2 - and things have taken a bit of a turn at the paper.

There were shades of Stepford Wives, the Prisoner, and Harry Potter thrown in, (but JKR threw so much in, it’s hard to avoid her). I definitely recommend reading this series from the beginning to understand the characters backgrounds. I can't elaborate because to talk about the events our characters have to deal with would absolutely spoil the previous two books. Caimh has his roots in stand-up comedy and his wit and comedic timing shines through in every single word, every piece of dialogue. The reason is simple, I loved The Stranger Times and This Charming Man and I was desperate to find out where this series was going to go next! The characters all become familiar in a very short space of time and so much so that you are rooting for them all the way through. Love Will Tear Us Apart was published by Bantam Press on 9th February 2023 and is available in hardcover, audio and digital formats with the paperback to follow. For me, the plotting on this book was a bit too fractured and it was quite hard to keep all of the scattered plot lines together in my head. Is the overarching series something that is obvious or is it more of a series of standalone stories featuring the same characters? If you're looking for a quirky, mystery filled, modern era fantasy series packed with all sorts of supernatural critters, a fantastic 'found family' in the form of the Stranger Times publication employees, banter, seriously 'strange things', drama, tension and heart in the throat endings, stop looking.

Received arc from Random House UK and Netgalley for honest read and review, and this is my review only. The only negatives were in the formatting of the ARC which made it hard to read in places, bur when this gets cleaned up for publication it'll be a great entry in the series. And he keeps the pace of the story by throwing in some plot twists, as well as some killer cliffhanger chapter endings making sure you continue reading to find out what happens next. The main focus of the story is that acceleration and culmination of Banecroft’s own personal hell – a storyline that has been building since the beginning of the first book. It’s a world where magic is starting to reappear and leak out from the previously tightly bolted social door that kept normal people, like myself, happily unaware of the talking dogs and strange powers that lurk around each corner! Welcome back to Manchester and the weird and wonderful environment of the offices of The Stranger Times. Love Will Tear Us Apart is the third instalment of the Stranger Times series, about a Manchester-based newspaper whose staff investigate supernatural events and other oddities.

We are introduced to new characters who also have this conversational style, and some who didn’t have it before have developed it. Such things are not unusual when Vincent Banecroft is the editor of your paper, a broken shell of a monster with the empathy of a turkey twizzler. The increased cast was dispersed fairly thinly, sometimes operating in isolation and had so little to do with the main action I questioned why they were even given page space. I have to admit that I felt deep compassion for this loudmouthed, uncouth character whose manners are as inexcusable as his own personal hygiene, and I followed the narrative thread concerning his quest with great trepidation.

This latest book is full of the usual random crazy events for the staff of the weird and wacky Stranger Times Newspaper. Not himself, his behaviour causes a major upset in the office and, when a new assistant editor arrives on the scene, it’s clear to all that something is very amiss. Floating statues, hijacked ghosts, homicidal cherubs, irate starlings, Reliant Robins and quite possibly several deeply sinister conspiracies; all-in-all, a typical week for the staff of The Stranger Times.

Once you have you started Love Will Tear Us Apart you will be shocked to find that stalwart Hannah has up and left the office with zero notice. There are the usual snorting laugh kind of one liners and insults alongside the tense, dramatic scenes that you read about. His obsession with finding out more about his wife is taking over and visits from his friend in the night (trying to avoid spoilers here) are only exacerbating the situation.is a former stand up comedian who has created a world (a slightly different Manchester) that I would love to visit but certainly not like to stay! And if you've ever had to deal with company audits, there's a great moment in this book where Grace is having to haul in boxes of documents for an audit. The world of Stranger Times got expanded, we have the big bads set up, the sides in a huge magical conflict. Today I am delighted to hand the blog over to my guest reviewer extraordinaire, Ryan, who is going to share his thoughts on Love Will Tear Us Apart, the third book in The Stranger Times series by C.
