About this deal

Any fan of the author or player rated below 1200 will definitely make no wrong choice by spending a bit of time with this! There are plenty of diagrams and the books follows a path with chess boards after a move so you don't have to visualise the notation being applied in your head, or spin up chess. It is interesting to compare Rozman's new book to another "ultimate guide" - " Pandolfini's Ultimate Guide to Chess" by Bruce Pandolfini published twenty years ago in 2003. How to Win at Chess teaches you everything you need to know about the game, including all the important moves and strategies to start off strong and keep you thinking several steps ahead.

Of the Vienna Game (the opening I know the best) the book includes only FOUR pages covering two lines. The book is far clearer than most I've read that tend to go off down several paths and you don't know where one part ends and the next begins. IM Levy Rozman, also known as Gothamchess, is on the verge of releasing his inaugural chess book in a matter of months. It is your responsibility to make sure that your operating equipment is compatible with the relevant software or video DVD before purchasing and that software purchased is functionally adequate for your needs. He breaks down the details of chess in a way that is simultaneously easy to follow and yet not pandering to the uneducated. Apparently you don't need a chessboard to study with this book, so I'm assuming that every/every other position will be shown on a diagram.

The tone is just what you'd expect from IM Levy Rozman if you're familiar with him from his YouTube channel. You don't need a physical board (which was essentially required for every other book that predates this one).Other than as a taster and introduction to the existence of the Vienna, a reader who is not familiar with this opening will not develop a meaningful understanding of it in either the book text or the online content.

His book excited me to learn about the game and the added lessons at the end of each chapter really helped me grasp the concepts. Well, literally a minute ago, Levy asked me (and three thousand others) on his Twitch stream to review his book and give him 5 stars.NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Learn chess from International Master and YouTube’s top chess teacher Levy Rozman (aka GothamChess) in this refreshing and fun guide for beginner and intermediate players. Rozman is Rozman—his twitch stuff caters to a twitch audience, his old YouTube stuff catered to a new player wanting to learn, his pay vids are ridiculously detailed and helpful, and this volume seems to walk the line between all 3. This is a lot of ground to cover, and the book isn't very long - only around 250 pages of content with around half of this taken up by diagrams. Full of Levy Rozman's signature charm and humor that have made him beloved by millions of fans, the first half of this unique guide introduces rising players (0-800 Elo rating) to the four key areas to consider when playing chess--openings, endings, tactics, and strategy--and the second half builds upon these core skills for more experienced players (800-1300 Elo rating). This book is definitely worth it for the beginners and below intermediate level players but might not offer much to advanced players.

Plenty of basic theory, plus some good intermediate content to get you working your way up the ratings. Those of you who have also bought a copy, what do think are the best parts of the book, and parts that could be improved in a future revision?I picked up “How to Win at Chess” by Levy Rozman and am delighted by the improvement in my understanding…and ability to win!
