About this deal
I do appreciate that EVGA tried to do something different, and while it's not something I'll use a lot, the extra audio features on hand have been extremely useful in some cases.
One of these handles mic input and line output (headset audio), and the other is a “console party link” for connecting to a controller. The EVGA XR1 Capture Device allows you to share the world and stream with 4K Pass Through Mode – Record at 1080P/60FPS while you game at 4K/60FPS. I even messed with the settings, I just can't manage to get the option for 1080p 60FPS back and I'm scared that if I do, it'll just downscale to 720p again. For those looking to capture 480p signals (whether that be native or upscaled), the XR1 Lite has you covered. Delivering full 1080P 60FPS gaming and video, and being Certified for OBS allows quick and easy installation! Many of these issues can be worked around with third party software, but each of these solutions adds complexity and potentially latency. I wouldn’t recommend playing off of something like the OBS preview, but if you really needed to, it wouldn’t be a terrible experience.
However, because the headset microphone does not route back into the Source system, a second microphone needs to be connected into the source system for your party to hear you. Whether you're going to use the audio features is another matter, but you're well catered for if you want it. The discounts seen put it only a hair more expensive than the AVerMedia Live Gamer Mini, and this is a much more capable capture card.It feels like a capture card that kept in mind the capabilities of the new consoles and built around them as well, ensuring that HDR capture was possible since both major consoles utilize HDR, as well as ensuring 4K60 pass through at the very least. If you're a console gaming content creator then you want to have the best capture card in your arsenal.
