About this deal

Michael Rosen is obviously a fellow chocolate cake fan and I could empathise with the little boy in the charming illustrations very strongly. The children now insist on miming yaPOOSH yaPOOOSH yaPOOOSH whenever they are faced with a chocolate cake slice… It’s glorious. I now believe this item is out of print and may not be reprinted, so its unlikely this seller has any of tese books to sell, even though it is still listed as being available. He is quite pleased with my project of baking every recipe in the book, considering he gets to taste everything, and he was pretty happy with his birthday cake! The illustrations are fantastic with wonderful detail and colour which I know will engage children as well as adults!

Super quiet, he tiptoes past his parents’ bedroom and takes care not to wake up his brother, down to the kitchen. Not only is it enjoyable for him to listen too but for myself reading this book to him, using lots of funny and silly noises to bring the book to life. Michael Rosen, a recent British Children’s Laureate, has written many acclaimed books for children, including WE'RE GOING ON A BEAR HUNT, illustrated by Helen Oxenbury, and I’M NUMBER ONE and THIS IS OUR HOUSE, both illustrated by Bob Graham. I love the way the typeface changes to enhance the descriptive words as they work seamlessly with the pictures.

So I take the knife again, and this time, through the crispy icing on the top, through the squashy icing in the middle, and I got a whole slice this time. Michael Rosen's awesome poem "Chocolate Cake" gets the picture book treatment, with some utterly eatable illustrations from Kevin ("Harold's Hungry Eyes") Waldron. In the video, Michael explains how much he loves chocolate cake, and how one night, he snuck downstairs in the middle of the night to "take a little look at it.Because "Chocolate Cake" is Michael's third most popular video, it has been used in countless YouTube Poops. A ghost of a smile was on her lips, and he almost sagged in relief as he said, “For you, I’d say that chocolate cake is most definitely a need. So the past few years, a couple of children’s books have been particularly popular in our house: Chocolate Cake by Michael Rosen with illustrations by Kevin Waldron, and I Really Want the Cake by Simon Philip with illustrations by Lucia Gaggiotti.

I can’t think of a better way to spend a rainy day than with a great book, a happy little girl, and some Thunder Cake. The poem is a clear favourite in my classroom and this book is lovely - it has cute illustrations and I like how the text is scattered across the pages.

T is now old enough to read the recipes though, so we’ve reached a new stage – where he can weigh things out, reading the figures on the scales. It’s a format which is easy to share, and easy to reread, and the pictures are a celebration of the text as well as a new way to experience the story. Soften the butter (in a warm place or with a quick nuke in a microwave), then sieve in the icing sugar and cocoa. In Michael's July 2018 livestream, he mentioned that he also sneaked downstairs a few times in the middle of the night to have some caramel wafers, not just chocolate cake. Rosen leaves it up to readers' imaginations what his punishment was, but does clearly say he was being greedy.
