About this deal

Interview with Christophe Gans - in this archival interview, Christophe Gans discusses his work on Brotherhood of the Wolf and the goals he aimed to accomplish with it. Now my only caveats for this set is the fact that inexplicably Scream has region locked this 4K disc and the set is light on new extras.

The box set has an extensive selection of archival bonus features that were originally made available on various DVD releases of Brotherhood of the Wolf. Subtitles are a vast improvement over Scream’s controversial first Blu-ray without the gaps or outright stupid titles like “speaking foreign,” - none of that is there. The film looks undeniably gorgeous, with the mostly on-location settings lit and lensed beautifully, with a great sense of atmosphere. As for supplements, while the vintage featurettes far outweigh anything newly produced, there are still hours upon hours of content to dig through here.On top of that, the new French Atmos track is a beast of its own fully utilizing what the format has to offer for home theater fans. As panic sweeps across the region, the King sends his finest military minds, the scientist and adventurer Gregoire de Fronsac and his martial-arts-trained Iroquois blood brother Mani to flush out the Beast and kill it. Jérôme Bigueur, a senior colorist at Hiventy, looks back at this long-running project, reflecting on how much has changed in two decades. On paper, this unusual blend of gothic horror, swashbuckler, martial-arts movie and bodice-ripping romance shouldn’t work. The first sequence shows footage of the relationship between Grégoire de Fronsac and the two ladies.

Brotherhood of the Wolf meshes traditional horror with a werewolf theme and superb martial arts action from Mark Dacascos who almost steals the film as the cool but deadly Mani. A perfect example of effective style over substance, it was one hell of a striking debut, a cult classic actioner which elevated upcoming action star Mark Dacascos into the limelight. The film takes place in 1766, in southwest France, where a terrifying creature haunts the mountains, attacking men and animals with great ferocity. In 2001, StudioCanal released Brotherhood of the Wolf unto the world, a period genre-movie hybrid, based on actual accounts from 18th Century France. Commentary Two - this archival audio commentary was recorded by stars Vincent Cassel and Samuel Le Bihan and originally appeared on a French DVD release of Brotherhood of the Wolf. But what these men find, when finally confronted with the true nature of the beast, is more shocking than anyone could have anticipated.
