While William Shakespeare’s reputation is based primarily on his plays, he became famous first as a poet. Some of the illustrations are on graph paper and the endpapers feature the books characters incorporated into circuit diagrams. For example they are used in computer data storage, alarm systems, microphones and speakers, motors, electrical generators and transformers. Back on the swing, in the final pages, he makes sure he doesn’t leave it behind, but children will notice that he hasn’t paid the same attention to his arm. Many children’s books have a moral in the telling, or a serious message - this one is simply good fun.

So then Bear was using it in his drum kit, but it made a funny noise and now he doesn't know where it is. Sue Hendra is the wonderfully funny, award-winning author and illustrator of some of our favourite picture books, like Barry the Fish with Fingers and Norman the Slug with the Silly Shell. Sue had a great time and got a job with Harry Potter publisher Bloomsbury immediately after she left.She decided she wanted to go to Brighton and that’s where she did, in fact, end up doing her degree. Bird was using it as a nest, but it was too heavy; Bear used it in his drum kit, but it was too tinny; the Squirrels built sandcastles with it.

Methought I was, and methought I had—but man is but a patched fool if he will offer to say what methought I had. Sue was hugely fortunate enough to hone her skills as an illustrator whilst she worked for the likes of Bloomsbury, Walker Books, Oxford University Press, Macmillan etc, illustrating and writing picture books. My favourite picture is the second to last picture because it shows his arm has come of and attached to the swing right acts he said he won’t lose anything again. This book is great we laughed out loud and refer to it often (particularly when we go to the park (‘check you’ve not left your bottom over there.The book is beautifully illustrated and the story is guaranteed to have you and your child laughing… I can’t recommend any of the Sue Hendra books highly enough, seriously if you’ve never read any of her books then you MUST! The eye of man hath not heard, the ear of man hath not seen, man’s hand is not able to taste, his tongue to conceive, nor his heart to report what my dream was. The prospects look good for a story when you're already laughing at the front cover, never mind what's inside.
