About this deal

It was obvious from like halfway through the book that Finny and Sylvie were arguing about Autumn during their car crash. At the end of senior year, Autumn's boyfriend breaks up with her, and Finny's girlfriend travels to Europe. Autumn and Finn had been best friends forever, they did everything together, until middle school, that they fell apart for some reason or another. The story circles around the relationship between main characters Autumn and Phineas during their high school years, with lots of backstory from their childhood. I keep thinking about Finn and Autumn and how all of the behind the scenes of their relationship contributed to the ending, AND THAT ENDING?

Finn was the shy boy who was utterly talented when it came to sports but also a very caring boy which will make complete sense how things came to by at the end. Most of you are used to my reviews by now that you expect or maybe even anticipate "gifs" interjected drawing out how I felt while I was reading. What made these issues more realistic was that they weren’t just touched upon once, but they were followed upon Autumn’s progression through school and clearly showed an important part of the type of person Autumn became. I can see them in the car before the accident—the heavy rain, the world and the pavement as wet and slick as if it had been oiled down for their arrival. I read through the first chapter quickly and when I read the line about what she hoped would be true I believed it at face value.

I see Sylvie sitting sideways out of the back of the policeman's car, her feet drumming on the wet pavement as she talks. So I’m reading this thinking it’s some cute love story and when it finished I feel BAMBOOZLED I feel HURT I feel BETRAYED.

Unlike literally the rest of the world I am the only person that didn’t realize how this was going to end. So yeah idk if this makes me want to give the book a high or low rating but the fact that it’s evoking all these feelings out of me makes me feel like it must be doing something right. Our main characters are in high school and I really related to the emotions, relationships, and friendships in this book.I wasn't with Finny on that August night, but my imagination has burned the scene in my mind so that it feels like a memory.
