I don’t doubt that this is true, but I will say that of the four or five bottles I’ve owned from the distillery, I haven’t had the poor luck to experience a bad one.It was a nice touch, and one I’ve found that lends me some affection towards the distillery, even if I wouldn’t say that it’s among my very favourites. This outstanding single malt was tenderly nursed in 100% Oloroso sherry barrels for a quarter-century, resulting in a whisky that is nothing short of spectacular. Aromas of raisins, butterscotch and sweet spices fill the nose, and the palate offers notes of dark chocolate, orange peel, banana, raisins and caramel. In 1865, Glenfarclas distillery, nestled in the heart of Speyside, was purchased by a cattle breeder by the name of John Grant. When I visited Glenfarclas Distillery back in 2019, it was for me – and it still is today – the quintessential Speyside distillery, even if they bill themselves as a “Highland” malt.

The distillery has six stills which are the largest on Speyside and are heated directly by gas burners.
