About this deal

Dust jacket is also very clean with minor edge wear and traces of the red ink of the boards beginning to transfer to the inside of the dust jacket. Fire and Blood explored the history of the Targaryen Kings from the time of Aegon I’s conquest up to the ascension of Aegon III. Quicksilver, a quarter the size of Balerion, was no match for the older, fiercer dragon, and her pale white fireballs were engulfed and washed away in great gouts of black flame. R. Martin, this is the first volume of the definitive two-part history of the Targaryens in Westeros.

The inspiration for HBO and Sky Atlantic's House of the Dragon Centuries before A Game of Thrones, an even greater game began, one that set the skies alight with dragon flame and saw the Seven Kingdoms turned to ash. The first half of the book is about Aegon I, Visenya and Rhaenys, telling their invasion of Westeros and how they conquered the Seven Kingdoms in four chapters.

If you have previously read George R R Martins series a song of ice and fire, be warned, this book is not like those. As a conscientious objector, Martin did alternative service 1972-1974 with VISTA, attached to Cook County Legal Assistance Foundation. Over the years, I've built up a small library of maps and so I could print off and keep to hand a map of Westoros but, without being able to refer to it constantly, following the plot in this book would have been all but impossible. Pas la même couverture (la couverture du livre reçu est une image tirée de la série), mais c'est pas dérangeant, au contraire puisqu'elle me plaît mieux. I purchased Fire and Blood to read over the Christmas holidays (2018) to have something to read, I was not particularly excited to read it, but it’s by GRRM on the history of the Targaryen monarchs. These are but a few of the questions answered in this essential chronicle, as related by a learned maester of the Citadel and featuring more than eighty-five black-and-white illustrations by artist Doug Wheatley including five illustrations exclusive to the trade paperback edition. It's so mediocre that the author has resorted to simply taking historical rumours, like the one about Catherine the Great having relations with a horse, and giving it to a ruler in this book with no attempt at dissimulation or making it fresh and new.

Sometimes we are told how different "historians" relate a story differently and I felt this just clogged things up. For all ebook purchases, you will be prompted to create an account or login with your existing HarperCollins username and password.

A note on the length: Portions of Fire and Blood have been published elsewhere, though nowhere else that I have been. And lest you be suckered in by the promise of ILLUSTRATIONS on the cover, those aren't that impressive either. Y Draig Goch-In Welsh mythology, after a long battle (which the Welsh King Vortigern witnesses) a red dragon defeats a white dragon; Merlin explains to Vortigern that the red dragon symbolizes the Welsh, and the white dragon symbolizes the Saxons – thus foretelling the ultimate defeat of the English by the Welsh.

What I mean is that the ostensible narrator is not an omniscient GRR Martin but a master writing several centuries after the event and relying on several contemporary sources of dubious accuracy. The Dragon is also a symbol of power, strength, and good luck for people who are worthy of it in East Asian culture. It's exclusively for completists and ASOIAF history buffs who'll happy dance at the irrelevant bits of new information this contains, and maybe for Targaryen fans.
